Senior Database Administrator SQL Server

Location: Phoenix, AZ Hybrid

Position Type: Contract-to-Hire 4 Months

The Arizona Department of Education is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to support SQL Server database administration, development, performance, security, backup/recovery, and data integration activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases from legacy versions through SQL Server 2022.
  • Perform database backup, recovery, maintenance, replication, upgrades, and performance tuning.
  • Design and maintain logical and physical relational database models.
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
  • Manage SQL Server Always On, clustering, and high-availability configurations.
  • Manage and support Azure database virtual machines.
  • Develop and test database migration and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Troubleshoot database connectivity, performance, indexing, and operational issues.
  • Develop PowerShell scripts for database administration and automation.
  • Configure and support Power BI datasets, gateways, and refresh schedules.
  • Design and maintain SSIS packages and ETL processes for data integration and transformation.
  • Implement database security, permissions, standards, and governance practices.
  • Implement version control and DevOps practices for database objects.
  • Review existing database architecture and recommend performance and design improvements.
  • Develop purge and archive procedures for historical application data.
  • Collaborate with application, BI, and IT teams to support data-driven solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and cross-training to database administrators and developers.
  • Maintain database documentation, technical procedures, and operational standards.
  • Provide technical support and participate in on-call activities for critical database issues.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Bachelor's degree plus 5+ years of database administration experience, or equivalent professional experience, is required.
  • Candidates must be local to Phoenix, AZ, eligible for contract-to-hire conversion, and able to work onsite as required.
