Job Description – Postgre SQL Developer:
We are seeking a Postgre SQL Developer with strong experience in heterogeneous database migrations to Postgre SQL / Aurora Postgre SQL. The role focuses on converting database objects, optimizing migrated workloads, and supporting application teams during migration and cutover phases.
The ideal candidate will design, develop, and optimize Postgre SQL database objects, work closely with application and platform teams, and ensure functional and performance parity between source databases (such as SQL Server or Oracle) and Postgre SQL. This role requires hands-on experience with migration tools, query optimization, and post-migration validation.
Key Responsibilities:
Migration Planning & Execution:
• Lead the conversion of SQL Server database objects (tables, views, indexes, constraints) to Postgre SQL-compatible syntax and data types.
• Convert SQL Server stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views into Postgre SQL-compliant PL/pg SQL with equivalent functionality.
• Address migration-specific challenges: case sensitivity, identifier quoting, transaction isolation differences, and procedural language semantics.
• Support application testing, UAT, and performance benchmarking on Postgre SQL / Aurora Postgre SQL.
• Fine-tune Postgre SQL configuration parameters in coordination with DBA/platform teams.
Data Migration & Validation:
• Design and execute data migration strategies using AWS DMS, AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT), and/or custom ETL scripts (Python, pg Loader, etc.).
• Configure and troubleshoot CDC (Change Data Capture) pipelines for near-zero downtime cutover.
• Collaborate with data engineering/ETL teams to validate data integrity, referential consistency, and volume reconciliation post-migration.
• Resolve data type mismatches, truncation issues, and encoding/collation conflicts.
Performance Optimization & Cloud Tuning:
• Analyze query execution plans and refactor migrated queries for optimal Postgre SQL performance.
• Design and implement effective indexing strategies and leverage Postgre SQL-specific features.
• Tune Aurora Postgre SQL parameters and advise on instance sizing.
• Benchmark and stress-test migrated workloads; provide performance sign-off before production cutover.
Automation, Support & Documentation
• Develop and maintain migration automation scripts (SQL, shell, Python, etc.) to streamline conversions and validations.
• Provide L2/L3 support during migration, cutover, and post-go-live phases.
• Document migration standards, conversion guidelines, and Postgre SQL development best practices.
• Mentor internal teams on Postgre SQL development patterns and migration considerations.
• Ensure all migrated objects comply with organizational security and compliance policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience in database development, with at least 3 years focused on Postgre SQL.
• Proven track record in large-scale, heterogeneous migrations (SQL Server → Postgre SQL/Aurora Postgre SQL).
• Strong proficiency in:
o PL/pg SQL, advanced SQL (window functions, CTEs, JSON/JSONB)
o AWS DMS, SCT, pg_dump/pg_restore, pg Loader, or similar tools
o Query performance tuning & execution plan analysis
o Version control (Git) and CI/CD integration for database changes (e.g., Liquibase, Flyway)
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS RDS/Aurora, IAM, VPC, security groups).
• Experience with monitoring tools (Cloud Watch, pg_stat_statements, pg Badger, Datadog).
Nice-to-Have
• Exposure to other source platforms (Oracle, My SQL, Sybase) for a broader heterogeneous migration context.
• Knowledge of database Dev Ops (Git Ops, automated testing, drift detection).
• AWS Certified Database – Speciality or Postgre SQL professional certifications.
