Delta1 Developer

Overview

We are seeking a Java Developer to design and develop the Delta1 Algorithmic Trading platform, which executes our in‑house trading algorithms. In this role within Barclays Delta1 Trading Technology, you will help build and enhance trading algorithms across equities and equity derivatives, supporting the delivery of the regional business strategy.

Key Accountabilities / Requirements

• Analyze, design and develop industry‑leading trading systems
• Back‑testing of trading algorithms for reliability & returns
• Participate in code reviews and architectural decisions
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment

Decision-Making and Problem Solving

• Analyzing requirements to find the most appropriate technical solution and creating technical specifications where needed
• Developing pragmatic software solutions as per the requirement specifications
• Participate in code reviews
• Support the implementation of new algorithms and enhance existing ones

Essential Skills / Basic Qualifications

• Excellent knowledge of Java
• Excellent knowledge of threading in Java
• Strong understanding of concepts such as data structures, algorithms and design patterns
• Good scripting skills using Python, Bash or similar
• Experienced working in a Linux environment
• A degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or an equivalent stream

Desirable Skills / Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in an Investment Bank
• Experience in Algo Development is a plus
• Experience in C++ Development is a plus
• Advanced knowledge of Linux
• Knowledge of computer networks, computer architecture, and operating systems
• Familiarity with Agile software development methodology

• Collaboration with peers, participation in code reviews, and promotion of a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
