Responsibilities
Lead technical initiatives and define architecture for complex embedded systems. Architect and validate firmware from requirements to production, lead technical projects across the team’s roadmap, and mentor teammates to ensure high‑throughput delivery. Develop a deep understanding of Geotab IoT devices (telematics, asset trackers, video products, etc.) and advocate for modular, reusable, hardware‑independent software practices. Break down large engineering efforts into manageable tasks, design and review scalable, secure embedded software for RTOS, Embedded Linux or bare‑metal, and establish test‑driven development frameworks. Provide design documentation, enforce coding standards, and conduct peer reviews to deliver reliable, maintainable code. Guide stakeholders on execution choices and trade‑offs, advise managers with actionable insights, and support continuous improvement of team processes.
Qualifications
Expertise in C/POSIX, object‑oriented design, and multithreaded real‑time or embedded Linux development. Proven experience in preemptive, multitasking real‑time operating systems or multi‑service embedded Linux systems with strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns for resource‑constrained systems. Deep understanding of RTOS and Linux architecture, microcontroller design, and embedded communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN). Ability to read schematics and datasheets, troubleshoot hard‑to‑debug embedded issues, and mentor junior developers. Strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and experience working in a Scrum/Agile environment. Complementary experience in CI/CD, Git, scripting (Python, Bash), and SQL is required.
