Development Engineer - Exploratory Device Processing (Cleanrooms)


Initial 1 year contract (freelance) + possible extension


Leuven, Belgium (5 days onsite/week)

The assignment

  • Translate device and material concepts into experimental process flows in collaboration with seasoned R&D engineers and researchers.
  • Develop and optimize process steps in the cleanroom environment, including thin film deposition, patterning, etching, bonding, and layer characterization.
  • Integrate process steps into full device fabrication flows and monitor critical parameters for yield and performance.
  • Work hands-on in the lab to execute processing runs, ensuring accuracy, repeatability, and proper documentation.
  • Report process progress, results, and issues to project leaders, R&D engineers or researchers in a clear and structured way.


Required knowledge and skills

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience in cleanroom processing, including one or more of the following: thin film deposition, photolithography, etching, bonding, or microfabrication.
  • Good understanding of microfabrication principles and enjoy translating concepts into experimental process flows.
  • Organized, result-driven, and able to plan and execute tasks according to project schedules.
  • Strong team player, working closely with both engineers and assistants, while taking initiative to solve problems independently.
  • Experience within cleanrooms is mandatory. 3 – 6 years of experience within a similar position.
