Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Diffusion Process Engineer to develop, optimize, qualify, and sustain thermal processing and diffusion operations within an advanced semiconductor wafer fabrication facility. This role is responsible for establishing robust oxidation, annealing, dopant activation, thermal diffusion, and furnace processes that support high-yield semiconductor manufacturing and successful technology ramp-up.
The successful candidate will work closely with Process Integration, Ion Implant, Thin Film, Etch, Lithography, Equipment Engineering, Yield Engineering, Metrology, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to optimize thermal process performance, improve device characteristics, reduce defects, and ensure stable high-volume manufacturing.
Candidates should possess strong expertise in furnace operations, oxidation, RTP (Rapid Thermal Processing), dopant diffusion, thermal budget optimization, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and semiconductor manufacturing.
Role Objectives

- Deliver stable, repeatable, and scalable manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and sustain semiconductor diffusion and thermal processing operations.
- Establish process windows for oxidation, annealing, dopant activation, drive-in diffusion, and thermal treatments.
- Optimize furnace recipes, thermal cycles, gas flow, pressure, and temperature profiles.
- Support dry oxidation, wet oxidation, sacrificial oxidation, gate oxidation, and field oxidation processes.
- Develop RTP and spike anneal processes for advanced CMOS technologies.
- Optimize junction depth, sheet resistance, oxide thickness, dopant activation, and uniformity.
- Perform Design of Experiments (DOE) to improve process capability and device performance.
- Analyze process data, metrology results, electrical test data, and yield trends.
- Drive continuous reduction of thermal defects, contamination, oxidation defects, slip lines, and crystal damage.
- Collaborate with Ion Implant Engineering to optimize implant activation and diffusion profiles.
- Work closely with Process Integration Engineers to optimize interactions between thermal processing and adjacent manufacturing modules.
- Support qualification of new furnaces, RTP systems, quartz ware, and process gases.
- Participate in technology transfer and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.
- Implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) to monitor process stability and capability.
- Support Advanced Process Control (APC) initiatives for thermal process optimization.
- Perform root cause analysis for process excursions and yield losses.
- Develop engineering specifications, process documentation, operating procedures, and qualification reports.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield, throughput, productivity, and cost reduction.
- Ensure compliance with semiconductor quality systems, cleanroom protocols, and EHS requirements.
Key Responsibilities During Fab Startup
- Support installation and qualification of diffusion furnaces and RTP systems.
- Develop baseline thermal process recipes for manufacturing.
- Establish furnace qualification and process certification procedures.
- Define thermal process specifications and process control plans.
- Qualify process gases, quartz tubes, boats, and consumables.
- Support pilot production, engineering builds, and technology transfer.
- Develop SOPs and manufacturing work instructions.
- Train production teams on diffusion and thermal processing.
- Support production readiness prior to high-volume manufacturing.
- Improve process capability during fab startup and production ramp.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Semiconductor Engineering, or related discipline.
- 6 15 years of semiconductor wafer fabrication experience.
- Strong hands-on expertise in diffusion and thermal processing.
- Experience in high-volume semiconductor manufacturing.
- Proven expertise in process optimization, thermal processing, and technology transfer.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
