Job SummaryTo support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add an EHS Engineer located in Guadalajara North. The EHS Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, chemical, and energy sources, particularly those exceeding standard voltages, are safely isolated before maintenance or repair. This role combines technical electrical expertise with strict administrative safety protocols (STPS, NFPA 70 E, OSHA 29 CFR ) to prevent accidental re‑energization, which can cause severe injuries or fatalities in high, medium, and low voltage situations.
Typical Day Prepare and implement LOTO procedures for equipment and create switching orders when applicable. Coordinate site LOTO‑related activities in the affected work areas with all parties. Incidents investigation: participate in investigations of incidents related to LOTO failures. Energy Isolation Verification: ensure all high‑voltage sources are de‑energized, locked, and tagged in compliance with NFPA70 E standards. Manage permit to work LOTO system: documented authorization (PTW) with physical isolation (LOTO) to prevent accidental startup and protect personnel. Program Procedure Development: write and review hazardous energy control procedures for de‑energizing high‑voltage systems. Qualified Personnel Assignment: ensure that only certified high‑voltage electricians (Authorized Employees) manage LOTO for high‑voltage systems. Stored Energy Control: manage the safe discharge of stored energy (capacitors, transformers). Safety Audits: conduct inspections and audits of LOTO procedures to ensure compliance. Training & Certification: train authorized and affected personnel on the dangers of high‑voltage systems. Advanced LOTO & Isolation Governance: audit single‑line diagrams (SLD) to ensure no sneak circuits or back‑feed possibilities from the grid or the cogenerator. Grounding Coordination: verify that temporary protective grounding is applied after de‑energization to protect against induced voltage. Key Performance Indicators Zero Energy Verification (ZEV) audit scores. PPE Integrity: recertification logs for high‑voltage gloves (tested every 6 months) and hot sticks. Experience & Qualifications Experience in EH&S or related position. Managing people / Direct reports experience. Ability to comprehend, manage and/or guide sustainability projects. Demonstrates expert operations, technical and people and/or process skills as well as customer (external and internal) relationship skills. Demonstrates mastery of expertise in multiple areas and industry. Demonstrates mastery of functional knowledge in relation to other functions and a complete comprehension of the function and those of related businesses. Demonstrates detailed expertise in very complex functional/technical area or broad breadth of knowledge in multiple areas; comprehends the strategic impact of the function across sites. Ability to read, research and interpret safety guidelines, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to read, research and interpret common technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to acknowledge common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies. Ability to effectively present information and acknowledge group questions of managers, customers and vendors. May be required to present to top management. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
