Position Overview

This position reports into the EHS Site Lead and is based in Cape Town. You will support the EHS Site Lead for EHS performance at the site.

Key Responsibilities Actively participate in defining the EHS system and maintaining it to achieve EHS objectives. Contribution to the sites design reviews, process optimization, and equipment safety evaluations. Contribute to the development of regulatory compliance plans and continuous improvement projects related to EHS. Apply engineering principles to identify, evaluate, and control safety risks in industrial and operational environments. Evaluation of equipment layouts, guarding, and fail‑safe mechanisms. Ensure safety systems and controls such as machine guarding, ventilation, pressure relief systems, interlocks, alarms. Evaluation of safety implications of engineering and process changes. Participate in the deployment of EHS objectives for the site—auditing, analyzing, documenting, and reporting on their implementation and effectiveness by preparing dashboards, reports and management reviews. Create, update, and maintain the operating and work instructions for EHS. Participate in the verification of compliance with EHS regulations and Kenvue standards; disseminate and adapt mandatory EHS standards. Support management in contact with authorities in EHS relevant areas. Support the EHS Site Lead in identifying business impacts of EHS and changes to regulations. Execute the Regional & Internal Audit program and ensure timely corrective actions are taken when EHS hazards are identified. Collaborate to maintain local ISO certifications (and other voluntary certifications, VPP/OHSAS). Facilitate, implement, plan, and produce material for internal training in EHS, for contractors and fire safety. Develop relationships with other functions (e.g., engineering, facilities) to ensure EHS aspects are considered at the beginning of new/changing operations and to manage aspects of external manufacturers, suppliers and contractor programs. Participate in the analysis of incidents and accidents and good‑saves (both bodily and environmental) and contribute to the associated action plans. Participate in the definition and execution of CAPA. Organize evacuation exercises and participate in fire risk prevention, including evaluating risks and following up on internal action plans. Spend a minimum of 40% of operational time on the shop floor. Implement EHS Inspection Program. Manage contractor safety compliance on‑site. Execute waste lift‑ups, track data and ensure destruction certificates are supplied by service providers. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering, safety engineering, industrial engineering, or related field. 3 to 5 years of professional experience. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with regulators, management, and site personnel. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Power Point, to support reporting and presentations. Desired Qualifications Proficient in Technical EHS Risk Assessment and able to recognize and assess plant operations and industrial hazards. Demonstrated experience in applying engineering principles to improve safety, reliability, and efficiency of industrial processes. Strong understanding of mechanical, chemical, and/or industrial systems. Familiarity with engineering standards, codes, and best practices (e.g., ASME, API, SANS where applicable). Involvement in Process Safety Management Assessments. Conducting and facilitating: Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) Dust and Electrostatic Assessments Job Safety Analysis (JSA) Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) Implementation of engineering controls and safety instrumented systems.
