At Total Marine Technology (TMT), we build and service the technology that operates underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), subsea systems, and precision offshore equipment used in some of the most demanding environments in the world.

We are looking for a First Year Electronics Apprentice to join our engineering and manufacturing team. If you are curious about electronic systems, diagnostics, circuit boards, and how complex equipment works, this could be a great opportunity to start your career in a highly specialised industry.

Please note: this is an electronics apprenticeship, not an electrical apprenticeship.

What you’ll be doing

From early on, you will work alongside experienced electronics technicians and engineers on real offshore and subsea equipment used in operational environments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the assembly, testing, maintenance, and repair of electronic systems and components
  • Reading and interpreting electronic schematics and technical drawings
  • Supporting fault‑finding and diagnostics on subsea and offshore equipment
  • Learning to use electronic testing instruments such as multimeters and oscilloscopes
  • Completing a Certificate III in Electronics and Communications through TAFE, with support from the TMT team

What we’re looking for

You do not need prior industry experience, that is what the apprenticeship is for. We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in electronics, a willingness to learn, and a positive attitude.

You may be suited to this role if you:

  • Have an interest in electronics, technology, or how systems work
  • Have completed Year 10 or Year 12 (Maths and Science are advantageous)
  • Enjoy practical problem‑solving and learning new skills
  • Can follow instructions, communicate well, and work as part of a team
  • Have good attention to detail
  • Are committed to working safely in a workshop environment

Experience with electronics projects, Arduino kits, repairs, or similar hobbies will be highly regarded, but is not essential.

What TMT offers

  • Rostered Day Off every four weeks
  • Paid Birthday Leave
  • Fully funded social club
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Health and wellbeing initiatives
  • Structured mentoring from experienced electronics technicians
  • Hands‑on exposure to subsea and offshore engineering projects
  • Long‑term career opportunities within a specialised and growing industry

How to apply

Please submit your resume along with a short cover letter telling us what interests you about electronics and this opportunity at TMT.

We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and experience levels who are eager to learn and build a career in electronics.
