Work Arrangement

The Role

General Motors is undergoing a major transformation and is looking for experienced and motivated individuals for the position of Virtualization and Software‑in‑the‑Loop (SIL) Integration Engineer to support our Test Environment Agile Release Train (SIL ART). The role involves creating virtual in‑the‑loop environments to enable development, verification, and validation of embedded controllers and calibrations for several vehicle domains, including:

  • Propulsion Thermal Management System
  • Battery Management System
  • Chassis and Brake Controls
  • Body Electronics and Controls including vehicle access, occupant comfort, occupant protection, lighting, visibility and vehicle State

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and integration of cosimulation components to satisfy end‑user test requirements.
  • Create virtual controller models to be used across different simulations.
  • Maintain and test virtual controller components such as HWIO, RTOS, and communication models.
  • Obtain, develop, and parameterize subsystem models, such as sensors, actuators, and ECU behavioral models.
  • Collaborate with development engineers to understand new feature requirements, address issues, and ensure proper implementation.
  • Work with System Engineers to define SIMBOMs (cosimulation assets) based on test requirements.
  • Integrate plant models and other ECU models into a dynamic virtual simulation.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for each release.
  • Provide support for released simulations and assist with user testing and troubleshooting.
  • Offer technical support and guidance to team members.
  • Ensure cosimulation environments are delivered with quality.
  • Support cloud deployments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • 2–5 years of software engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in Embedded C and Python.
  • Experience with embedded controls software and automated build processes, including GCC compiler, GDB debugger, Eclipse, Jenkins, and ETAS INCA.
  • Adept experience with MATLAB and Simulink for plant model development and integration; basic usage of additional simulation tools such as GT‑Power, AMESIM, CarSim.
  • Proficiency in automotive communication technologies such as CAN, LIN, SPI, and automotive Ethernet.
  • Familiarity with FMU/FMI standards and SSP.
  • Familiarity with AUTOSAR Layered Software Architecture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of embedded software development experience.
  • Experience in virtualization or software integration.
  • Experience designing and developing vehicle body controls, propulsion thermal, battery management, chassis, and brake controls software.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $90,900 to $136,400. The actual base salary offered will vary based on relevant factors.
