About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to lead the development of a next-generation embedded hardware platform used in a real-time operational environment. This is a hands-on engineering role responsible for the full embedded software lifecycle, including architecture, firmware development, hardware integration, testing, production deployment, and ongoing product support.
The device is a commercial hardware product featuring:
Dual integrated displays
30+ physical buttons
Long-range wireless communication
Ethernet and WiFi connectivity
Embedded Linux and/or MCU-based architecture
This is not a maintenance role. The selected candidate will help build and ship a new product platform from concept through production.
Mandatory Requirements (Must Have)

Embedded Software Development

5+ years of embedded software development experience

Strong C/C++ programming skills

Experience developing software for embedded hardware products that have been released to production

Experience working throughout the entire product lifecycle, from requirements through deployment and support

Embedded Linux & MCU Experience

Practical experience with both:

Embedded Linux systems

Microcontroller-based systems (Bare Metal and/or RTOS)
Hardware Integration Experience
Experience integrating software with real hardware devices and peripherals
Understanding of hardware bring-up, debugging, validation, and production support
Experience collaborating with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, QA, and operations teams
Connectivity & Communication
Experience working with wired and wireless communication protocols
Familiarity with Ethernet and WiFi integration
Experience troubleshooting communication between embedded devices
Product Development Environment
Ability to work independently in a small Agile engineering team
Comfortable owning technical decisions and driving projects with minimal oversight
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills

Experience integrating RF communication systems
Exposure to proprietary radio protocols
Experience with long-range wireless communication systems

Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software for a next-generation embedded controller platform
Participate in architecture decisions regarding MCU vs Embedded Linux implementations
Develop firmware and application software in C/C++
Integrate dual-display user interfaces and hardware peripherals
Support wireless communication, Ethernet, and WiFi connectivity
Implement and maintain OTA firmware update capabilities
Collaborate with hardware, manufacturing, QA, and service teams throughout the product lifecycle
Support validation, troubleshooting, and production deployment activities
Contribute to future connected-device and IoT initiatives
