Job Title

Johnston County Emergency Services is seeking Part-Time EMTs.

Johnston County's EMS division is responsible for overseeing provisions of Emergency Medical Services throughout the county, providing oversight to medical dispatch, fire department medical responders, and contracted EMS Agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for responding to the scene of emergency and non-emergency calls.
  • Applying necessary medical treatment to sick or injured persons
  • Transporting persons to appropriate medical facilities
  • Administering basic level of life support techniques and procedures based on patient assessment
  • Gathers basic medical and insurance information

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work a rotating shift, travel to and from assigned stations and to meet the needs of the EMS operations.
  • Serves as operator of emergency medical unit responding to calls for assistance and transports patients to medical facilities as necessary.
  • Successfully completes necessary reports and records for emergency calls.
  • Inspects and tests ambulances and their emergency equipment, maintaining proper inventory of equipment and supplies; cleans and sanitizes ambulance and equipment daily; ensures that they are in proper and good working order; makes routine adjustments, but reports other than minor defects for specialized attention.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, and hearing.
  • Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, to move objects.
  • Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, for extensive reading and work with figures; to operate a computer, to use measuring devices, to operate a motor vehicle; and to determine accuracy and neatness of work.

Desired Education and Experience

  • High school graduation and successful completion of the North Carolina State Emergency Medical Services training program.
