Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)-Basic
The purpose of the class is to respond to emergency calls, provide medical assistance to the sick and injured at the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)-Basic level and to perform related work as required. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. This post has been extended. Essential Job Functions:
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED supplemented by education in emergency medical technology or a closely related field. Requires at least six (6) months of related work experience.
Special Qualifications: Must possess a valid state driver's license. Must complete required coursework and maintain South Carolina and National Registry of EMT's certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) and Pediatric Education for Pre-hospital Professionals (PEPP) certifications; obtain any other certifications deemed necessary by Department Head. All EMT's and Paramedics will be required to obtain a Class E Non-Commercial Driver's License within two months of their date of hire and as a condition to being released as the second person on an ambulance crew. Applicants under 21 years of age will be required to have two years of driving experience with a valid driver's license and no driver's license points assessed in the last 24 months. Applicants over 21 years of age must have less than 4 driver's license points assessed in the last 24 months and no reckless driving or driving while impaired convictions within the last 5 years.
Work Environment: Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities and needs. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a part-time position. Employees are scheduled to work 12.25 per week. Typical work hours and days are Monday through Sunday, 6:45 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Must work 4 hours each week to maintain part-time status. Employees must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays during emergencies or as requested. This is a safety sensitive position and employees holding this position have the responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. This position is subject to random drug testing. E.O.E.
