A Day in the Life

As a Senior R&D Engineer at Medtronic Articulating Technologies, you will get the opportunity to develop advanced medical devices to enable next generation endoscopic therapeutic interventions and minimally invasive surgery. In a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, you work on design, development and testing of surgical instruments and its related manufacturing processes.

You are a smart, eager and result driven engineer who thinks in terms of solutions rather than problems. You present your ideas convincingly and to the point. Collaboration is in your nature, and you value different opinions and perspectives. You have strong analytical skills, and you can suggest out-of-the-box solutions. You show a strong sense of ownership. You have strong technical writing expertise to support the development, documentation, and protection of innovative technologies. You combine deep engineering knowledge with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear technical documentation.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
  • Creating designs, technical drawings, calculations and models, prototypes and test results

  • Enable realization of projects from concept through production and market introduction

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, production teams and users to ensure high-performing, manufacturable, and cost-effective design solutions

  • Designs, develops, analyses, troubleshoots and provides technical skills during research and/or product development

  • Designs studies to investigate specific life science questions within field of expertise

  • May be involved in product research and development and/or clinical trials and translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products

Required Knowledge and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field with proven experience as a Design Engineer, CAD Drafter or similar role preferably in the field of precision mechanics
  • Proficiency in CAD software preferably AutoCAD and SolidWorks and skilled in performing analytical mechanical calculations supported by FEM analyses
  • Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing and construction principles and ability to interpret technical specifications and engineering standards
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills combined with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Mastering the Dutch & English language
