Mains'l is currently seeking a full-time FMS Payroll Accountant. In this role, you will work closely with the Financial Management Services (FMS) team to deliver innovative payroll and tax solutions that support individuals who need assistance to live successfully in their communities. As an FMS Payroll Accountant, you will partner with agency partners to support their payroll and tax needs, making a meaningful impact in the lives of the people they serve. Salary: $56,722.00 - $66,945.00/ year Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30am-5pm Work Environment: Flexible Hybrid, with some in-person work required in our Brooklyn Park, MN office

Your day-to-day work may include:

  • Processing payroll and accounts payable payments for household employers in multiple states.
  • Responsible for accurately processing emergency payrolls when requested by the agencies.
  • Processing voluntary and involuntary deductions, such as levies, garnishments, and Corrective Action Plan payments.
  • Processing banking transactions. Includes initiating EFT files, EFT reissues, positive pay upload and researching any payroll/accounts payable payments that may have been returned.
  • Keeping abreast of tax rules and regulations, including Federal, multiple states and localities.
  • Identifying and assisting in developing FMS system enhancements.
  • Providing quality and excellent customer service to internal and external partners, and program participants using comprehensive knowledge and research to communicate effectively with team members and partners. Includes researching and special requests.
  • Solving problems concerning payroll, answering inquiries, and enforcing payroll policies.
  • Reconciling, filing, and paying quarterly/annual taxes for multiple states and local agencies.
  • Responsible for end of year filing requirements including processing FICA refunds, distributing W-2 and 1099 Misc. forms, reconciling wages and taxes reported to SSA with wages and taxes reported to IRS.
  • Developing and distributing reports for various agencies.
  • Managing day-to-day participant account administration, employer and employee setup, budget configuration, along with new hire and rehire reporting.
  • Daily payroll tax activities with FEIN, state and SUTA tax ID applications, and issue resolution.
  • Participant tax account maintenance and closure, execution and revocation of Form 2678 and state of powers attorney.
  • Research and resolution of IRS, SSA, state tax, and local tax requests and issues.
  • Ensuring bank reconciliation and account reconciliation are correct and completed.
  • Completing annual unclaimed property processing.
  • Filing, reconciling, and paying quarterly/annual taxes for Federal, multiple states, and local agencies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field preferred, but not required
  • Creative, innovative, inquisitive, and eager to learn other accounting software programs
  • Ability to quickly learn and use electronic systems to manage workflows and documentation efficiently
  • Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Familiarity with payroll tax filings and multi-state payroll processing preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with stakeholders and employees.
  • Adaptable and able to manage changing responsibilities.
  • Customer-service oriented and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
