  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience

Interview Process Please Set Expectations With Candidates

Candidates will complete a 1+ hour video interview with live screenshare and live coding on JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and GraphQL. This is a hands-on technical bar candidates must have strong fundamentals to pass. Please do not submit candidates who cannot demonstrate deep language-level knowledge and hands-on GraphQL server work.

Screening Bar What the Client Wants to See

The manager has already ruled out multiple candidates for weak JavaScript fundamentals, weak TypeScript fundamentals, and lack of hands-on GraphQL server/resolver experience. Please shift your screening from "has used React" to "can demonstrate deep language-level and server-side GraphQL work."

JavaScript 5+ years, pre-framework roots preferred

  • Vanilla JS or pre-framework experience (jQuery era, early Node.js)
  • Deep understanding of closures, event loop, async patterns, hoisting, == vs ===
  • Bonus: OSS contributions, published npm packages, technical blog posts, custom hooks/middleware/utility libraries built (not just consumed)

TypeScript 3+ years hands-on in a strict-mode codebase

  • Comfortable with generics, utility types, discriminated unions, mapped types, conditional types
  • Bonus: Migrated a JS codebase to TS, authored .d.ts files, configured tsconfig themselves

GraphQL (Server-Side) Written resolvers in production (THIS IS THE BIGGEST DIFFERENTIATOR)

  • Explicit resume language: "wrote GraphQL resolvers," "built GraphQL schemas"
  • Hands-on with Apollo Server, GraphQL Yoga, Mercurius, or Node.js GraphQL implementations (Walmart's stack is heavily Node/Apollo)
  • Bonus: Apollo Federation, schema stitching, supergraph, DataLoader (N+1), BFF (Backend-for-Frontend) architecture, REST-to-GraphQL migrations, resolver performance / query complexity / GraphQL security

React 3+ years modern React

  • Hooks, SSR, performance profiling

Codebase depth

  • Long tenure on a complex product; ideally has owned a system end-to-end

Please Do NOT Submit Candidates Who:

  • Only talk about React components, props, and state not the underlying language
  • Say "I've used TypeScript" but can't explain generics or type a reusable component's props
  • Only describe client-side GraphQL (useQuery, useMutation) and can't walk through a resolver they wrote
  • Have hopped between short React gigs with no deep tenure on a complex codebase

Submission Format

When you send referrals, please include:

  • Full legal name, phone, email, LinkedIn
  • Location + ZIP, visa status, W2 rate
  • Years of experience for JS, TS, React, Node.js, GraphQL
  • Current/most recent client and reason for change
  • Any Walmart or Walmart-adjacent references (manager name, Walmart ID if applicable)
  • OSS contributions, npm packages, or technical blog posts if available
