Role Summary
As a Full Stack Engineer (Java / React), you will contribute to the design, development, and testing of features and services that power Staples Print's eCommerce platform. You will build Java-based backend services using Spring Boot and develop React/TypeScript frontend components, working within an Agile team under the guidance of senior engineers and tech leads. You will grow your skills across the full stack backend APIs, frontend UX, cloud-native deploymen, and take increasing ownership of well-scoped features as you develop.
Duties & Responsibilities
-Develop and maintain Java microservices and APIs using Spring Boot and Spring MVC.
-Build React/TypeScript frontend components and pages that integrate with backend APIs.
-Write clean, tested, maintainable code following team coding standards and conventions.
-Implement unit tests and participate in integration testing across owned features.
-Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve application defects across the stack.
-Participate in code reviews both giving and receiving feedback constructively.
-Contribute to API integrations with messaging platforms and third-party services.
-Support the team in understanding and manually testing AI-powered features under the guidance of senior engineers.
-Explore AI-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT) to improve day-to-day coding productivity and learn their effective use patterns.
-Stay curious about how AI tools are shaping modern software development and proactively share observations from experimenting with them.
-Collaborate with senior engineers, product managers, and QE in Agile sprint cycles.
-Contribute to technical documentation, API specifications, and test plans.
-Actively seek learning opportunities and apply feedback from senior engineers to improve craft.
Requirements
Years of Experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience in an eCommerce and engineering role.
Minimum of 2 years of experience working with high-traffic, large-scale distributed systems and cloud platforms.
Basic Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
-2+ years of hands-on development experience with Java (Java17+) and the Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC).
-Foundational experience with React or another modern JavaScript framework (Vue, Angular); TypeScript experience preferred.
-Understanding RESTful API design and consumption.
-Basic experience with relational databases (MySQL, MS SQL, or PostgreSQL) and SQL querying.
-Familiarity with Git version control and pull request workflows.
-Exposure to unit testing frameworks (JUnit, TestNG) or similar.
-Familiarity with HTML5, CSS3, and responsive design basics.
-General curiosity about AI/ML concepts and how tools like ChatGPT or GitHub Copilot are changing the way software is built.
-Willingness to experiment with AI-assisted coding tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar) as part of day-to-day development.
-Strong eagerness to learn, take feedback, and grow in a fast-paced team environment.
-Good communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
-Exposure to cloud platforms Azure, AWS, or GCP (even academic or personal projects).
-Familiarity with Docker and containerized development environments.
-Exposure to NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cosmos DB, or Couchbase).
-Familiarity with messaging platforms (Kafka, JMS, or RabbitMQ).
-Interest in how AI features are used in software products and a natural curiosity to explore AI tools in everyday work.
-Experience in retail, eCommerce, or print application contexts.
-Familiarity with Agile/Scrum practices and sprint-based delivery.
-Familiarity with build tools such as Maven or Gradle.
