We operate as a pure Scrum shop, rapidly delivering high-quality web applications, internal tools, and cutting-edge features—including emerging AI-driven initiatives—using modern cloud and web technologies.

This position is for an experienced Web Developer with a strong focus on front-end interface design to support TMX Newsfile's core platforms. Working directly within our Scrum team, you will design, build, and extend both public-facing web properties and internal applications using PHP, JavaScript, and CSS (with experience in Perl, AWS, and AWS Lambda considered strong assets). In this role, you will enhance user interfaces, integrate AI-based capabilities, and participate in release management processes to ensure robust, high-performing services for our corporate clients. This role reports to: Managing Director, Delivery Lead, Newsfile

Job Location: Hybrid (2-3 days in office) - based in Vancouver, BC.

Key Accountabilities

  • Core Application Development: Build, test, and maintain web pages, applications, and features using PHP, JavaScript, and CSS, prioritizing exceptional front-end interface design and user experience.
  • Product & AI Enhancement: Support and extend TMX Newsfile's public-facing distribution platform, internal operational tools, and integrated AI initiatives.
  • System Optimization & Cloud Integration: Drive application performance, security, and scalability, leveraging AWS cloud infrastructure, AWS Lambda serverless functions, and supporting legacy or auxiliary services (Perl experience an asset).
  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Partner closely with team members to diagnose, debug, and resolve technical issues across production and non-production environments.
  • Scrum & Release Management: Actively participate in all Scrum events (sprint planning, daily standups, reviews, and retrospectives) and contribute to structured change and release management practices.
  • Collaborative Delivery: Work cross-functionally within the engineering team to translate platform requirements into clean, maintainable, and scalable code.

Must Have(s)

  • Experience: 2–5+ years of experience developing and maintaining applications within with PHP, JavaScript and CSS
  • Web & Scripting: Professional proficiency in PHP, JavaScript, and CSS for application development and maintenance.
  • Database Literacy: Comfort working across both SQL Server and MySQL environments.
  • Polyglot Mindset: A genuine interest in switching between different languages and technical eras to support business needs.

Nice to Have(s)

  • Cloud Foundations: Prior experience is a plus, or a strong willingness to learn and maintain Python lambda scripts deployed with AWS AI Gateway.
  • Perl Experience: Prior experience is a plus, or a strong willingness to learn and maintain Perl scripts.
  • Interest in AI: A genuine interest in working with AI to augment web-based applications.
  • DevOps/SRE: Experience with application monitoring, logging, and improving system reliability.
  • Industry Background: Experience in fintech, regulatory compliance, or high-availability data distribution.

Salary Range: 70K/year - 85K/year CAD.
