Charles River Laboratories are excited to be recruiting for a Senior Full Stack Java Developer on a full time, permanent basis. You will be leading the modernization, troubleshooting and maintenance of the Java J2EE LIMS application with a predominant focus on the conversion of legacy EJB components to RESTful services. Using a deep technical knowledge of Java J2EE development, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practice and ensure compliance with industry standards.
We are looking for a Java 2EE development specialist, with knowledge of software lifecycle management in a cGMP regulated environment to lead this transition!
This position will work remote from home office, located in India.
Must be able to work US (EST / EDT) and UK (BST / GMT) hours.
Job Description
What you’ll be doing:
• Lead the modernization of an existing 1M+ lines Java J2EE application, transitioning from EJBs to RESTful APIs.
• Drive the UI migration from Swing to modern JS/TS web framework using WebSwing, ensuring a seamless user experience.
• Develop and maintain microservices architecture, optimizing performance and scalability.
• Work with Spring, WildFly, and PostgreSQL to enhance backend functionality.
• Implement best practices for software development, ensuring compliance with FDA guidelines, cGMP 21 CFR Part 11, MHRA, and GAMP5.
• Ensure software documentation, change control procedures, and regulatory requirements are met.
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance (QA) and regulatory teams to maintain compliance and data integrity.
• Work closely with business analysts, operations, and external vendors to align software development with business needs.
• Lead training and knowledge transfer sessions to ensure effective adoption of new technologies.
• Participate in Agile development processes and contribute to continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in Java J2EE development, with expertise in:
o EJB-to-REST conversion
o Spring framework
o WildFly or similar Java EE application servers
o Swing UI modernization to JS/TS web framework (preferably migrating to Svelte)
• Strong experience with SQL databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and RESTful API development.
Technical Skills:
• Expertise in object-oriented programming (OOP) and design patterns.
• Proficiency in JavaScript, ReactJS, Svelte, or other modern frontend frameworks.
• Knowledge of unit testing, integration testing, and automated end-to-end testing.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools.
Desirable:
• Development in a GxP-regulated environment.
• Experience working with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems).
• Understanding of cloud-based solutions and DevOps practices.
