Location: Zwijnaarde, Belgium (Hybrid – minimum 2 days onsite per week)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Full Stack Java Developer to strengthen an Agile development team supporting applications used for managing and processing environmental, soil, groundwater, and subsurface data. The primary focus of this assignment is implementing technical changes required for the migration from the Lambert 72 coordinate system to Lambert 2008 across multiple business-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications.
  • Implement changes related to the migration from Lambert 72 to Lambert 2008.
  • Perform technical analysis based on functional requirements.
  • Develop REST-based services and web applications.
  • Ensure software quality through testing, debugging, and code reviews.
  • Collaborate closely with business analysts, developers, and end users.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and sprint reviews.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes and application performance.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience developing Java applications.
  • Strong experience with Java, Spring Framework, and Spring Boot.
  • Experience with Hibernate and REST APIs.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and SQL databases.
  • Familiarity with Git, Maven, JUnit, and Agile development methodologies.
  • Dutch language proficiency at CEFR C2 level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD).
  • Experience leading or mentoring development teams.
  • Knowledge of Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience within the Flemish Government or public sector environment.
  • Knowledge of geospatial systems, coordinate reference systems (SRS), GML, PostGIS, or related GIS technologies.
  • Experience with soil, subsurface, or environmental data management.
