Opportunity for impact
Newfire Global Partners, a leader in developing disruptive healthcare technology, collaborates with Fortune 500 companies and start-ups to drive transformation.
Newfire is seeking a Senior Full-Stack (Java/React) What's the Project? Our client is a well-established company in the luxury retail industry undergoing a major technology transformation. They have chosen Newfire as their long-term engineering partner for their digital ecosystem: a large custom e-commerce platform, multiple online storefronts, and ERP integrations. The goal is to modernize the platform and speed up software delivery, taking release cycles from several months down to about one.
We're building a team of experienced engineers who enjoy solving hard technical problems, improving large production systems, and working through real-world technical debt. This is not a greenfield project; it's a chance to make a real impact on the reliability, scalability, and delivery speed of a platform the business runs on. Development here is AI-native, with agentic development tools like Claude Code and CodeRabbit available, and part of every engineer's job is making the codebase work well for this way of working.
Your day-to-day activities:
Shipping customer-facing features behind feature flags, in small reviewed PRs
Improving the code you touch: decomposing oversized services, adding tests, migrating backend code toward Java 21 / Spring Boot 3.x
Building component and integration tests as part of everyday feature work
Making the repos you work in AI-ready: context files, custom commands, patterns that let agents work safely
Collaborating across pod boundaries in a mostly-shared codebase
Participating in code reviews and pod ceremonies, and contributing to estimation
Collaborating with the Quality Assistance team to build end-to-end tests for your features
Investigating and fixing production issues in your pod's area
Documenting what you learn and decide
Mentoring mid-level engineers and growing into pod-lead responsibilities
As a Senior team member, you will be expected to actively participate in our hiring processes by serving on interview panels for future roles across the company.
Please note that employment will be contingent upon providing documentation verifying your legal work authorization in the country of residence, in accordance with applicable law.
You’re a perfect match if you have:
6+ years of commercial software engineering, genuinely full-stack (not 90/10 one way)
Strong Java and Spring Boot, including JPA/Hibernate, database migrations (Flyway or similar), and relational data modeling
Strong React and TypeScript with modern Next.js (App Router, Server Components, current data-fetching patterns)
Solid PostgreSQL
Experience modernizing or maintaining a large existing codebase in production
Full ownership of what you ship, including testing: unit, integration, and E2E
Shared-codebase discipline: trunk-based development, small frequent PRs, feature flags, respect for module boundaries
Fluency with AI-assisted, agentic development: coding agents such as Claude Code, context engineering, AI code review and test generation
Good security hygiene: no secrets in code, careful input handling, changes through reviewed PRs and CI
Solid REST API design and experience integrating third-party services
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum practices
Proactive communication; you surface problems early and write things down
Excellent spoken and written English
Significant US Eastern Time overlap (we staff from our LATAM and EMEA delivery hubs)
