Job Summary:

The Senior Full Stack Software Developer will enhance and maintain the Provincial Health Services Directory (PHSD) by developing modern React and TypeScript user interfaces embedded within EMRs, and backend Spring Boot microservices. This role focuses on improving eReferral workflows, healthcare interoperability using SMART on FHIR standards, advanced search capabilities, and secure integration with enterprise identity and master data management systems. The developer will work on scalable cloud-native solutions supporting healthcare provider and service discovery across multiple datasets with a strong emphasis on security, performance, and maintainability.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, maintain, and support PHSD Spring Boot microservices and React-based user interfaces for eReferral provider and service discovery.
  • Enhance React and TypeScript applications within EMR workflows, applying best practices in component architecture, state management, accessibility, testing, and performance.
  • Implement and support SMART on FHIR launch workflows, fhirContext processing, and FHIR read/write operations between PHSD and EMRs.
  • Implement Ontario CMS context management using FHIRCast for context synchronization and event handling in healthcare workflows.
  • Design and implement semantic search, intelligent suggestions, filtering, and relevance tuning using OpenSearch.
  • Develop advanced Google Maps functionality including geographic filtering, polygon overlays, clustering, and interactive visualizations.
  • Refine Spring Boot services to enforce user roles, permissions, and entitlements across multiple datasets.
  • Design, develop, and maintain REST and FHIR APIs supporting healthcare providers, organizations, services, locations, and eReferral workflows.
  • Integrate and maintain secure authentication and authorization with NetIQ using OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, and role-based access control.
  • Support integration with IBM Master Data Management (MDM) for master data used in PHSD workflows.
  • Implement FHIR-based Pub/Sub and subscription patterns for event-driven healthcare data integration.
  • Develop data transformation, validation, synchronization, and indexing services combining multiple provincial datasets.
  • Participate in architecture reviews, design sessions, sprint planning, peer reviews, and collaborative troubleshooting.
  • Develop and maintain automated unit, integration, API, and UI tests; support CI/CD pipelines, deployment, monitoring, and operational support.
  • Produce technical documentation, API specifications, deployment guides, and knowledge transfer materials.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Strong experience developing React and TypeScript applications embedded within EMRs using SMART on FHIR standards including SMART launch, launch context, fhirContext, and FHIR read/write operations.
  • Proficient in event-driven healthcare integration using FHIR Pub/Sub or Subscription patterns and supporting messaging services.
  • Experience designing and developing FHIR R4/R4B and REST APIs for healthcare workflows including providers, services, organizations, practitioners, locations, and eReferral.
  • Experience implementing FHIRCast-based context synchronization and Ontario CMS standards.
  • Expertise in advanced provider and service search using OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, including semantic search, relevance tuning, filtering, and intelligent suggestions.
  • Experience with advanced Google Maps Platform capabilities such as geographic search, polygon overlays, clustering, and map visualizations.
  • Proficient in designing Spring Boot microservices enforcing user roles, permissions, and entitlements across datasets.
  • Experience integrating with NetIQ identity and access management using OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, and role-based access control.
  • Experience integrating with IBM Master Data Management (MDM) or comparable platforms.
  • Strong software development skills in Java, Spring Boot, React, TypeScript, and modern enterprise full stack practices.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services including API Gateway, ECS, Lambda, S3, EventBridge, SNS, SQS, IAM, CloudWatch, and Secrets Manager.
  • Proficient with Git, GitHub, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, Agile methodologies, and technical documentation.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience working with Ontario public sector healthcare organizations.

  • Knowledge of Canadian EMR or HIS environments such as Epic, Oracle Health (Cerner), MEDITECH.
  • Experience with Ontario eReferral workflows, central intake solutions, or integration with platforms like RICOH or Novari.
  • Familiarity with healthcare context synchronization standards beyond FHIRCast.
  • Experience with FHIR Subscriptions, FHIR Messaging, and AWS event-driven integration patterns.
  • Experience designing and operating cloud-native applications on AWS.
Special Considerations:
  • Must adhere to strict security and privacy standards due to healthcare data sensitivity.
  • Work involves integration within clinical EMR environments requiring high reliability and compliance.
