Job Summary
We are looking for a full stack engineer with deep expertise in Java, SQL, and healthcare data interoperability (FHIR) to lead the design and delivery of mission critical healthcare platforms. This role requires a strong technical leader who is equally comfortable writing production quality Java code, designing and optimizing complex SQL queries, and driving FHIR based integrations at enterprise scale. You will lead cross functional teams delivering Medicare claims systems, patient data platforms, and interoperable healthcare services, ensuring high performance, reliability, and compliance in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical owner and hands on lead for Java based backend systems and healthcare data platforms.
- Design, build, and scale high performance Java microservices using Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, and relational databases.
- Lead the creation, execution, and optimization of complex SQL queries for:
- Data analysis and validation
- ETL and backend data processing
- Production issue troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Performance tuning of database intensive workloads
- Implement FHIR compliant APIs and data pipelines, enabling secure and standardized data exchange across healthcare systems.
- Able to support handling large healthcare datasets (millions of records) with strong data integrity and performance guarantees.
- Collaborate with product, architecture, and business stakeholders to drive technical discovery, requirement definition, and solution design.
- Establish engineering best practices across Java code quality, SQL design, database schema optimization, testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Lead cloud native deployments and production readiness, ensuring systems meet uptime, resiliency, and compliance standards.
- Mentor and guide engineers, setting technical direction and raising the overall bar for engineering excellence.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in a senior engineer or Tech Lead role.
- Expert level Java experience, including:
- Spring Boot based microservices
- Hibernate/JPA and ORM tuning
- API design and backend service architecture
- Strong SQL expertise, including:
- Writing complex joins, nested queries, subqueries, and CTEs
- Query performance optimization and index strategy
- Debugging data inconsistencies and production data issues
- Hands on experience with PostgreSQL or similar RDBMS
- Proven experience building and supporting data intensive systems and backend services at enterprise scale.
- Experience with FHIR standards and healthcare interoperability (FHIR resources, APIs, payloads, versioning).
- Experience deploying and operating systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Pivotal Cloud Foundry).
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and database centric performance tuning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working on healthcare platforms, including claims, eligibility, clinical data, or patient data systems.
- Experience implementing or consuming FHIR APIs in production environments.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulated or compliance driven systems.
- Experience supporting high availability, production critical systems with large datasets.
- Ability to perform end to end troubleshooting across application code, SQL/database layers, and cloud infrastructure.
