Role Summary
This role is responsible for building, scaling, and optimizing the core operating systems that power the company’s tutor marketplace and service delivery infrastructure. The focus of the role is the development of the tutor supply engine and operational reliability layer that directly drive revenue activation, tutor utilization, service quality, and operational efficiency.
This is a transformation-focused role, not a maintenance or support function. The successful consultant is expected to replace manual and reactive operational processes with scalable systems, automation, and AI-enabled workflows that support a real-time, high-performance operational environment.
The role sits at the intersection of engineering, product, and operations, with ownership across operational tooling, workflow automation, marketplace mechanics, system reliability, and execution infrastructure. This includes building systems that improve tutor recruitment, onboarding, activation, scheduling reliability, substitution management, utilization optimization, operational monitoring, and service continuity at scale.
The position is expected to drive operational scalability through technology, improve visibility and real-time decision-making, and create resilient systems that enable the business to grow efficiently without proportional increases in operational overhead.
Core System Ownership
The role owns the development and continuous optimization of:
1. Tutor Supply Engine (End-to-End)
- Recruitment → Screening → Training → Activation → Utilization
- Build systems that increase speed to activation and conversion rates
- Reduce drop-offs across the funnel through automation and data visibility
2. Reliability Layer (Operational Continuity)
- Systems for missed lesson detection, monitoring, and substitution workflows
- Real-time issue identification and automated resolution pathways
- Ensure consistent service delivery with minimal manual intervention
3. Tutor Marketplace Mechanics
- Matching logic between tutors and students
- Supply-demand balancing and allocation systems
- Visibility into tutor availability, engagement, and performance
4. Utilization Optimization
- Build systems that maximize tutor hours and minimize idle time
- Track and improve key metrics such as activation rate, utilization rate, and retention
- Enable data-driven decisions on supply scaling
5. Human + AI Hybrid Delivery
- Integrate AI into workflows to augment human operations , not just support them
- Deploy AI for quality control, anomaly detection, and performance insights
- Reduce reliance on manual QA, monitoring, and coordination
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Build & Replace
- Identify manual, repetitive, or error-prone operational processes
- Design and implement systems that eliminate or significantly reduce manual work
- Prioritize speed, scalability, and reliability over perfection
2. Real-Time Systems Development
- Build and maintain systems that operate with real-time or near real-time data
- Enable visibility into tutor activity, session health, and operational risks
3. System Design & Architecture (High Ownership)
- Design scalable backend systems and workflows supporting marketplace dynamics
- Ensure systems can handle growth in tutor volume and session demand
4. AI Integration (Quality & Efficiency Layer)
- Use tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and GitHub to accelerate development
- Build AI-driven workflows for:
- Quality monitoring
- Exception handling
- Process automation
- Continuously test and refine AI use cases that improve output and reduce cost
5. Cross-Functional Execution
- Work directly with Operations, Teacher Recruitment, and Product stakeholders
- Translate operational pain points into system requirements and shipped features
AI Usage Target
Expected Impact:
- 30–40% improvement in development and iteration speed
- Measurable reduction in manual operational workload through AI-enabled systems
Application Focus:
- Automating workflows (not just coding assistance)
- AI-driven monitoring and decision support
- Rapid prototyping and iteration of operational tools
Expectation:
- AI is not optional—it is a core lever for system design and execution
Preferred Technical Stack & Experience
- Minimum of 10 years experience in a similar role
- Strong experience with modern frontend development using React, TypeScript, and Vite
- Experience building scalable backend APIs using NestJS
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and Prisma ORM
- Experience working with AWS services including S3, SES, Cloud-based deployments and infrastructure management
Work Set-up and Requirements
- Schedule: May require flexible hours but with focus on mid-shift (start of shift at 12NN or 1PM)
- Workdays: Five-day workweek with two rest days.
- Location: Fully remote
- Desktop/laptop with Intel i5 (10th gen), 8GB RAM or higher
- Minimum 25 Mbps internet speed with backup connection
- Backup power supply for at least 8 hours
