Role: High Performance Computing (HPC) Engineer
Duration: 6 months plus potential to convert to FTE
Location: Fully onsite in Concord area of Charlotte is first priority and required for those wanting to convert to FTE.
If unable to find a local resource we could present remote options, but they would need to travel to Concord NC for initial onboarding, meetings as needed, and if they want to convert to full time, eventually would need to relocate to work fully onsite.
Job Overview
Client is seeking a High Performance Computing (HPC) Engineer with deep experience designing, building, and optimizing HPC environments. This individual will play a key role in evaluating the current environment, helping build the business case for future-state architecture, ordering and planning equipment, and supporting HPC infrastructure modernization efforts. This is a highly specialized search requiring candidates with proven HPC design and implementation experience-not general systems engineers.
Must-Have Experience
HPC Infrastructure
- Experience designing, architecting, and implementing enterprise HPC environments
- Strong understanding of HPC compute, storage, networking, and cluster architecture
- Experience optimizing HPC performance, scalability, and workload management
- Ability to recommend and justify infrastructure investments through business cases and ROI discussions
Dell HPC Environment
- Previous experience supporting or architecting Dell-based HPC environments
- Familiarity with Dell HPC reference architectures and ecosystem
- Experience evaluating or migrating to alternative platforms is highly desirable
Modeling & Simulation
- Candidates must come from environments supporting engineering simulations and modeling workloads.
- Strong preference for experience with:
- STAR-CCM+
- Abaqus
- Converge CFD
Additional pluses:
- Slurm scheduler
- Linux HPC administration
- GPU-based computing
- NVIDIA environments
- HPC storage optimization
- Parallel computing environments
- Cluster migration projects
Infrastructure Transition Experience
- Client currently operates in a Dell HPC environment and may evaluate:
- Penguin Solutions
- Dell next-generation solutions
- Other HPC vendors
Candidates who have participated in platform evaluations, hardware refreshes, or HPC vendor transitions will stand out.
Responsibilities
- Assess current HPC environment and future requirements
- Help develop business case and infrastructure roadmap
- Recommend compute, storage, and networking architecture
- Assist with equipment selection and procurement planning
- Design and optimize HPC clusters
- Improve simulation and modeling performance
- Document architecture recommendations and deployment approach
- Support rollout and knowledge transfer activities
