The Position

International Mobility Director

Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY:

The International Mobility Director is responsible for leading and overseeing Imerys’ global international mobility framework, policies, and operations across all regions.

The role acts as the Group subject matter expert for international mobility matters and provides strategic and operational leadership on cross-border employment, international assignments, permanent transfers, immigration, tax and social security coordination, and mobility-related compliance risks.

Working closely with HR, Payroll, Legal, Finance, external providers, and business stakeholders, the position ensures internationally mobile employees are managed in a compliant, efficient, and business-oriented manner while continuously enhancing mobility governance, employee experience, and operational effectiveness across the Group.

JOB SCOPE:

Global scope covering all Imerys entities worldwide

  • Management of Long-Term Assignments, Short-Term Assignments, Permanent Transfers and other international mobility arrangements

  • Coordination with multiple external mobility providers (tax, immigration, relocation, social security, insurance, payroll support)

  • Support to HR teams, managers and employees globally on complex international mobility matters

  • Exposure to sensitive compliance, tax and employment matters across multiple jurisdictions

  • Long-term assignees

  • Short-term assignees

  • Permanent transfers and localized employees

  • International hires and complex cross-border cases -International travel may be required occasionally

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

​Global Mobility Governance & Policies

  • Lead and oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of Imerys’ international mobility policies and practices globally

  • Ensure consistency, fairness, compliance, and operational efficiency across international mobility programs

  • Advise HR teams and business stakeholders on the appropriate mobility framework, assignment structure, and policy application

  • Contribute to the evolution and simplification of international mobility processes, governance, and employee experience.​

International Assignments & Transfers Management

  • Manage and coordinate complex international mobility cases globally, including long-term assignments, short-term assignments, permanent transfers, localizations, split contracts, and cross-border employment situations

  • Support the design and implementation of mobility packages, balancing business needs, employee experience, internal equity, and compliance considerations

  • Coordinate assignment lifecycle activities including compensation structuring, immigration, relocation, payroll coordination, social security, tax support, and benefits administration

  • Review and validate mobility-related calculations, cost projections, and assignment structures

Compliance, Tax & Risk Management

  • Assess and monitor mobility-related compliance risks across countries, including tax, immigration, labor law, payroll, and social security matters

  • Coordinate with external advisors and providers on tax filings, immigration processes, social security coverage, and regulatory requirements

  • Support the resolution of complex employee situations, tax audits, and mobility-related compliance issues

  • Maintain awareness of international mobility regulatory developments and recommend appropriate policy or process adjustments when needed.

Manage the Group's international benefits plans

  • Administer the international pension plan and the international provident insurance contract.

  • Supervise the operation of international medical coverage, ensuring the interface between affiliates and the insurance provider.

  • Manage property and personal insurance contracts within the framework of international mobility.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Coordinate and oversee external mobility providers including tax, relocation, immigration, insurance, and payroll support partners

  • Ensure service quality, operational efficiency, compliance, and alignment with Group standards and expectations

  • Coordinate external providers’ invoicing process and liaise with Accounting to ensure timely payments

  • Collaborate closely with HR teams, payroll managers, finance, legal, procurement, and external consultants globally.

Operational Oversight & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain hands-on involvement in critical or high-risk mobility situations requiring senior expertise and judgment

  • Identify opportunities to improve mobility operations, governance, controls, and employee support processes

  • Contribute to mobility reporting, cost monitoring, benchmarking, and internal communication materials where required

  • Support the development of mobility knowledge sharing and HR community awareness on international mobility topics

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, International Business, Law, Finance, Tax, or related field.

  • Significant experience in international mobility, expatriate management, global compensation and benefits, or international HR advisory roles.

  • Strong exposure to international tax, social security, immigration, and cross-border employment matters.

  • Experience managing complex international assignments and coordinating external mobility providers.

  • Experience in a multinational & matrix environment, ideally in an international industrial group.

  • Strong expertise in international mobility policies and practices.

SKILLS & PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent understanding of international mobility compliance risks, including tax, immigration, payroll, labor law, and social security implications.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to manage complex and sensitive situations pragmatically.

  • Ability to operate autonomously and manage multiple priorities in a global and fast-paced environment.

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across all organizational levels.

  • High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential matters.

  • Hands-on, pragmatic, and service-oriented mindset.

  • Fluent in English and French.
