Job Description:

Java API Test Automation Engineer

Engagement: Contract (staff augmentation) |

Location: Remote, must reside in continental US |

Duration: Through end of 2026, potential extension into 2027

About the Role

This role supports test automation for the Data Delivery Service/FedLine (DDS/FL) initiative. The

engineer will build and scale automated API test coverage for a suite of Federal Reserve financial

services applications, working toward an 80% automation coverage target defined by FRFS. This isn't a

greenfield build - it's disciplined coverage expansion against a live, business-critical financial

platform, so reliability and precision matter more than speed of output alone.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, build, and execute automated API functional tests using Java + Rest Assured

- Identify and prioritize key business workflows for test coverage, in partnership with FRFS in

determining what counts toward the 80% target

- Integrate automated test suites with existing test infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines

- Maintain and enhance existing automation to keep pace with application changes

- Participate in software design and review sessions to ensure test plans align with business

requirements

- Execute test plans, record and report results, and perform root-cause analysis on failures

- Prepare test data and conduct peer reviews of test automation work products

- Support manual testers and help determine which manual test cases should be converted to

automation

- Participate in production deployment and remediation testing activities

- Conduct manual testing as needed

Required Skills & Experience

- Strong hands-on Java development experience, using IntelliJ IDE

- Proven experience with API test automation using Java Rest Assured

- Working familiarity with Maven in an IntelliJ environment

- Experience designing and executing manual functional tests using tools such as HP ALM or Xray

- Comfort working in an existing, large-scale test automation codebase (not building from scratch)

- Ability to work independently with minimal ramp-up time

Preferred / Nice to Have

- Experience with Fedwire applications, particularly Securities

- Experience in banking, payments, or other regulated financial services environments

- Familiarity with continuous integration/deployment tooling

Why This Role Is Challenging

- Coverage targets are directional, not fixed - scope of "what counts" toward the 80% is determined by FRFS as work progresses, requiring comfort with ambiguity

- Working against a production financial services platform means low tolerance for regressions or flaky tests

- Tight start timeline (kickoff expected September/October 2026) means limited onboarding runway
