Role: Java Backend Architect

Job Summary:
- We are seeking an experienced Java Backend Architect with strong healthcare domain experience to design and develop scalable, secure, and high-performance backend applications.
- The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, cloud technologies, and distributed systems, along with hands-on experience working in healthcare environments.
- The architect will work closely with product managers, business stakeholders, engineering teams, and enterprise architects to define technical solutions and drive backend architecture from design through implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and architect scalable, highly available backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
- Define microservices architecture, API standards, integration patterns, and backend development best practices.
- Develop and review RESTful APIs and enterprise-level backend services.
- Provide technical leadership to Java development teams and conduct architecture/design reviews.
- Design integrations with healthcare applications, platforms, and external systems.
- Work with healthcare data and workflows while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and applicable security standards.
- Design cloud-native solutions using AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Develop solutions using asynchronous messaging and event-driven architecture.
- Optimize application performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams on CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud deployments.
- Establish coding standards, design patterns, documentation, and technical guidelines.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and provide architectural recommendations.
- Mentor senior developers and participate in technical decision-making.
Required Skills:
- 10+ years of software development experience.
- 5+ years of strong Java backend development experience.
- Strong expertise in Java 8/11/17/21.
- Extensive experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and Spring Cloud.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microservices Architecture.
- Expertise in REST APIs, API Gateway, OAuth2, JWT, and secure API design.
- Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL.
- Experience with Kafka or other messaging technologies.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, resiliency, and performance optimization.
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab, or Azure DevOps.
- Strong knowledge of software architecture and design patterns.
- Recent experience working on healthcare applications or healthcare technology platforms.
- Experience with healthcare data, workflows, or integrations.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, PHI/PII, healthcare security, and compliance.
- Experience with healthcare standards such as FHIR, HL7, EDI, or X12 is highly preferred.
- Experience with healthcare payers, providers, claims, benefits, member, or clinical systems is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AWS services such as ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, API Gateway, and CloudWatch.
- Experience with Azure services such as AKS, Azure Functions, API Management, Service Bus, and Azure SQL.
- Knowledge of Redis, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, MongoDB, or other NoSQL technologies.
- Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools.
- Experience with observability tools such as Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, or Datadog.
- Experience with system modernization, legacy application migration, or monolith-to-microservices transformation.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
