We are currently looking for a Senior Java Backend Engineer to join an international banking project.
About the roleWe are looking for an experienced Senior Java Backend Engineer to join a cross-functional, DevOps-driven engineering team responsible for one of the bank's most critical business domains.
In this role, you will design, develop, deploy, and operate high-quality backend applications while collaborating closely with business stakeholders, architects, and fellow engineers. You will play a key role in delivering reliable, scalable, and resilient solutions that support Julius Baer's global private banking platform.

Software Development- Design, develop, deploy, release, and monitor enterprise-grade Java backend applications.
- Deliver clean, maintainable, and high-quality code following engineering best practices and coding standards.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement across the development lifecycle.
- Build and maintain RESTful services using OpenAPI specifications.
- Work within a DevOps-centric operating model, taking ownership from development through production.
- Monitor production environments and proactively troubleshoot application issues.
- Perform root cause analysis for incidents and contribute to long-term stability improvements.
- Support release activities and coordinate deployments across multiple teams.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and colleagues across multiple Julius Baer divisions to understand functional requirements.
- Act as the primary technical contact for a critical business domain, ensuring reliable communication and operational excellence.
- Contribute to Software Engineering communities by sharing knowledge and mentoring teammates.
- Help improve engineering standards, operational documentation, and technical best practices.
- Strong experience developing backend applications with Java .
- Experience working in Agile, cross-functional, DevOps-oriented teams.
- Proven experience supporting production systems and troubleshooting complex issues.
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and clean code principles.
- Experience coordinating technical deliveries across multiple teams.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Business-fluent English is mandatory.
- RESTful APIs and OpenAPI.
- Splunk for monitoring and log analysis.
- Git and Pull Request workflows.
- CI/CD and DevOps practices.
- Experience working with distributed systems is highly valued.
