As a Sr. Software Engineer B2, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining high‑quality software solutions. You will leverage your expertise in Kafka, Database and SQL, Hibernate, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Java MQ, Rest API, and Java to drive innovation and efficiency. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, contributing to impactful projects that align with the company’s vision.Location:Toronto, ON, CANADA (Hybrid)You must be legally authorized to work in Canada without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.Responsibilities:Design scalable event driven backend services using Kafka and Core Java to support high volume transaction processing in a secure and efficient mannerDevelop robust Spring Boot microservices that enable reusable payment and card processing capabilities aligned with enterprise architecture standardsImplement reliable Kafka producers and consumers that ensure exactly once or appropriate delivery semantics for critical financial eventsOptimize application performance by profiling Java code, tuning threads and memory, and improving response times for latency sensitive operationsCreate modular and testable service components that promote clean separation of concerns and ease of maintenance across the codebaseCollaborate with product owners and business partners to translate complex cards and payments requirements into clear technical solutionsIntegrate services with upstream and downstream systems using secure APIs and messaging while maintaining data consistency and observabilityApply secure coding practices and relevant compliance guidelines to protect customer information and transaction data throughout the solution lifecycleDevelop automated unit and integration tests that increase coverage and ensure regression‑free deployments for critical payment workflowsTroubleshoot production incidents by analyzing logs, metrics and traces and implement durable fixes that improve platform stability and customer trustContribute to code reviews by providing constructive feedback that improves code quality, maintainability and alignment to engineering standardsDocument technical designs, service contracts and operational runbooks that support smooth onboarding support activities and future enhancementsMentor peers through knowledge sharing sessions on Kafka patterns, Spring Boot best practices and resilient design techniques that uplift team capabilityQualifications:Possess strong hands‑on expertise in Core Java including collections, concurrency and functional constructs used to build enterprise‑grade servicesDemonstrate advanced proficiency in Spring Boot including dependency injection, data access, configuration management and production‑ready featuresExhibit practical experience designing and operating Kafka‑based solutions with topics, partitions, consumer groups and message serialization patternsBring experience in developing secure and scalable APIs that integrate with internal systems or partner platforms in a financial services contextShow familiarity with cards and payments domain concepts such as authorization, clearing, settlement and dispute handling as a desirable advantageApply solid understanding of software engineering practices including version control, continuous integration, code review and automated testingDisplay experience working in hybrid work environments with distributed teams using collaboration tools and clear communication to ensure alignmentCanadian Pay Transparency Statement
We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between $84,183 – $135,500 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business‑related and job‑necessary qualifications.
