Senior Software Developer – Elasticsearch – Distributed Systems team.

Responsibilities

• Improve Elasticsearch’s components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
• Maintain the cluster coordination system to keep performance high while nodes join or leave the cluster, ensuring safety and liveness.
• Push the limits on the number of shards, nodes, and petabytes that Elasticsearch can handle today.
• Investigate performance, concurrency, and other issues, and propose solutions.
• Support the support engineers with harder problems.

Qualifications

• Strong background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong skills in core Java, including the standard library of data structures and concurrency constructs, as well as newer language features.
• Deep technical proficiency in algorithms.
• Ability to understand and work on complex, highly distributed systems.
• Demonstrated ability to build and debug features with a broad impact, running on multiple machines.
• Ownership of projects from beginning to end, including technical design and collaboration.

Bonus

• Experience with data stores
• Knowledge of search, analytics, Lucene
• Strong knowledge of the JDK
• Experience with asynchronous event‑driven network frameworks such as Netty

Compensation

Base salary, no variable compensation. Typical starting salary range: $128,300 – $203,000 CAD.
