About the role
As a Senior Java Developer (J2EE/ SOAP/Struts/WebSphere) , you will make an impact by designing and developing scalable backend services that power high-performance, customer-facing banking applications. You will be a valued member of an Agile engineering team and collaborate closely with product owners, architects, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver secure, reliable, and cloud-native solutions.

In this role, you will:
- Design and develop robust microservices-based solutions using J2EE, SOAP, Struts, and WebSphere, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Write clean, efficient, and testable Java code (Java 8, 11, and 17) to implement business logic that is easy to understand, extend, and troubleshoot.
- Develop and optimize Spring Boot applications, including configuration management, data access layers, and security implementations.
- Build and maintain Kafka-based messaging integrations to support reliable, event-driven communication with proper message ordering, durability, and error handling.
- Create and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database interactions to support transactional workloads while ensuring data integrity and performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (QA, DevOps, Product) to deliver high-quality software solutions aligned with business requirements.
- Perform code reviews, debugging, and performance tuning to ensure application stability and efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to best practices in software development, including CI/CD, version control, and documentation standard

What you need to have to be considered
- 7+ years of experience.
- Strong experience in J2EE, SOAP, Struts, and WebSphere.
- Hands‑on experience with Java (versions 8, 11, and 17) and solid understanding of object‑oriented programming concepts.
- Proven experience in developing microservices using Spring Boot.
- Experience with Apache Kafka or similar messaging frameworks for event‑driven architectures.
- Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases (e.g., Oracle, DB2, MySQL).
- Experience with RESTful APIs and web services development.
- Familiarity with build tools (Maven/Gradle) and version control systems (Git).
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, application deployment, and DevOps practices is a plus.
Canadian Pay Transparency Statement
We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between $ 61,650 – $95,000 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance‑based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
