We are seeking an experienced Java Microservices Architect / Senior Developer to design and deliver modern, scalable enterprise applications. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Java-based microservices architecture , application modernization, and strong domain knowledge in the energy / electricity sector .
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable microservices using Java and Spring Boot
- Define and implement microservices architecture patterns and best practices
- Design and configure API Gateway solutions for secure service communication
- Develop scheduler-based batch and operational jobs
- Lead architecture discussions and future‑state system design
- Drive modernization initiatives, including monolith‑to‑microservices migration
- Collaborate across multiple teams in large transformation programs
- Leverage AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot )
Must‑Have Technical Skills (Mandatory)
- Hands‑on expertise with Spring Boot
- Strong knowledge of Microservices Architecture & Design Patterns
- Experience with API Gateway implementation
- Experience with TIBCO EMS / JMS
- Experience with Scheduler frameworks (Quartz or similar)
- Enterprise System Design / Architecture experience
Must‑Have Domain Experience (Mandatory)
- Experience in Energy / Utilities / Electricity domain
- Understanding of real‑time operational systems / grid management
- Familiarity with ISO (Independent System Operator) or regulated utility environments
Must‑Have Architecture & Modernization Experience
- Proven experience modernizing enterprise applications
- Strong experience migrating legacy monoliths to microservices
- Ability to evaluate architecture options and define target‑state solutions
- Experience mentoring engineering teams
- Experience in large‑scale transformation programs
- Strong stakeholder management and cross‑team collaboration
- Ability to manage technical dependencies across multiple workstreams
Nice to Have
- Experience in Canadian energy markets / utility organizations
- Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns
- Exposure to AI‑assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot
