Verisign is looking for a Junior Java software engineer to expand the Name Studio API team.
An ideal candidate should understand Cloud Computing, preferably AWS, have some knowledge of Machine Learning and/or LLMs, and be eager to learn as needed. They should understand software engineering fundamentals, including core Computer Science concepts, and have hands‑on problem‑solving experience building software systems.
The candidate will be involved in all aspects of product development including ideation, design, implementation, deployment, and issue resolution. This includes cross‑team collaboration with Product, Engineering, Security and Operations.
Responsibilities- Develop proof‑of‑concept software applications based on research findings
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on software application design, development and technology assessment
- Work with stakeholders to define requirements specifications and participate in requirements gathering, design, code and test plan reviews
- Contribute to software development, including future AI initiatives or cloud initiatives, for the team
Name Studio API is an API‑as‑a‑service recommender system for domain names. It is a Java, Spring Boot application that implements algorithms and uses external libraries such as Tensorflow to generate domain suggestions. The system uses state‑of‑the‑art neural language models and natural language processing algorithms on multiple data sources, including trending topics, popular keywords, geography and semantic relevance, in over ten languages. It also leverages Large Language Models hosted in the AWS Cloud to serve highly creative suggestions.
The key challenges in building the product are obtaining high‑quality, relevant, and meaningful domain suggestions while offering very low response times on a global scale and serving high request volumes.
TeamOur team owns the product end‑to‑end and functions like an internal startup. We follow Scrum, use Jira for ticket prioritization, GitHub with Git Flow and pull‑request reviews, Jenkins with automated pipelines, Terraform and Ansible for deployment, and Hadoop/Spark for large‑scale data processing.
Requirements- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including core Computer Science concepts
- Experience with AWS Cloud
- Familiarity with Java, Spring Boot or similar
- Familiarity with data science concepts including large language models, MLOps or machine learning
- Familiarity with UNIX‑like operating systems
- Understanding of secure coding standards
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and eagerness to learn new technologies
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field with at least 2 years of software development experience
- or a Master’s degree with demonstrable project or internship experience
- or equivalent experience
This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a hybrid work schedule.
The pay range is $89,900 – $121,700. Base pay may vary with knowledge, skills and experience. Discretionary bonuses and potential stock awards may also be offered.
