Senior Software Engineer (Java / AI-Enabled)

We are a U.S.-based company hiring an international contractor located in Brazil. This role will work closely with a distributed team, including Brazil and Canada based engineers.
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is primarily backend-focused but comfortable contributing to the frontend when needed. You'll play a key role in shaping systems, building scalable applications, and leveraging AI tools to move faster and smarter.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Build and scale Java-based backend systems and microservices
- Contribute to frontend features (React or similar) when needed
- Design robust, scalable applications and system architectures
- Use AI tools (Claude, Codex, etc.) to accelerate development and problem-solving
- Write and refine effective AI prompts for engineering workflows
- Collaborate closely with Product and Design to deliver impactful features
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and agile processes
- Debug and resolve production issues and performance challenges
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 8+ years of software engineering experience (strong backend focus in Java)
- Experience with Spring, microservices, and REST APIs
- Comfortable working across the stack (React/TypeScript or similar)
- Hands-on experience with AI coding tools (Claude, Codex, etc.)
- Strong system design and problem-solving skills
- Experience with PostgreSQL, Docker, CI/CD, and AWS
- Able to thrive in a fast-moving environment and adapt quickly
