The Role

We're looking for a Lead Data Engineer to own the technical direction of our data platform while leading a small, highly motivated engineering team.

This role combines hands‑on engineering with technical leadership. You'll work closely with the founders, business experts, and product stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable data solutions.

You'll be responsible for building a robust AWS‑based data lake, defining engineering best practices, and helping the team deliver reliable, high‑quality data products.

What You’ll Do

• 
  
• Lead a team of 3 Engineers through technical guidance, mentoring, and delivery.
  
• Design and evolve our AWS‑based data lake architecture.
  
• Build scalable and maintainable data pipelines for structured and unstructured market data.
  
• Own the quality, reliability, and performance of our data platform.
  
• Collaborate with founders and business stakeholders to understand priorities and convert them into technical solutions.
  
• Define engineering standards, code quality practices, testing strategies, and deployment processes.
  
• Drive architectural decisions around data modeling, storage, orchestration, and governance.
  
• Help shape the technical roadmap as the company scales.
  
• Participate as a hands‑on contributor to the codebase while enabling the team’s success.
  

What We’re Looking For
Must Have

• 
  
• 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering or related backend engineering roles.
  
• Previous experience leading or mentoring engineering teams.
  
• Deep knowledge of Python and SQL.
  
• Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines.
  
• Strong understanding of data lakes, data warehouses, and modern data architectures.
  
• Experience with cloud‑native services such as S3, Lambda, Glue, Athena, IAM, and Step Functions.
  
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar).
  
• Familiarity with CI/CD and engineering best practices.
  
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to bridge technical and business discussions.
  
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced startup environment with evolving priorities.
  

Nice to Have

• 
  
• Experience with Apache Spark or distributed data processing.
  
• Experience with AI for Coding.
  
• Knowledge of streaming architectures.
  
• Experience with data quality and observability frameworks.
  
• Exposure to AI/ML data pipelines.
  
• Previous experience in SaaS or B2B data products.
  
• Interest or experience in commodity, ingredients, or market intelligence domains.
