Lead Data Engineering – London
Location: London | Hybrid – 4 days a week in the office
Salary: £85,000 – £95,000 depending on experience

A fast-growing AI SaaS company is looking for an experienced Lead Data Engineer to lead and grow its Data Engineering function.
This is a senior leadership opportunity with a clear path to Head of Data Engineering as you build your knowledge of the business, its products and customers.
You’ll lead a small team of Data Engineers, take ownership of delivery and work directly with external customers. Although primarily a leadership role, you’ll need the technical depth to review SQL and code, challenge technical decisions and provide guidance when required.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of Data Engineers.
- Own delivery, priorities and engineering standards.
- Manage customer relationships and translate requirements into practical solutions.
- Review SQL, code and technical approaches.
- Work closely with Product, AI and Engineering teams.
- Improve processes, quality and ways of working.
- Support the continued growth of the Data Engineering function.
What you’ll bring
- Experience leading or managing Data Engineering teams.
- Strong people management and mentoring skills.
- Excellent SQL knowledge, supported by Python and experience working with cloud-based data platforms.
- Experience delivering customer-facing data products or solutions.
- Confidence working with external customers and senior stakeholders.
- A decisive, commercially aware and delivery-focused approach.
- SaaS, product-led, start-up or scale-up experience would be beneficial.
