Lead Engineer - Software

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Business Technology Services, you'll lead application development across IG Technology — setting technical direction, designing architecture, driving engineering quality and supporting a team of developers to deliver at their best. You'll work across agile squads and traditional technology teams, partnering closely with business stakeholders to solve complex problems with well‑engineered, cloud‑native solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead application development across IG, providing technical direction and oversight to developers and cross‑functional teams.
• Design and standardise application architecture patterns, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable and well‑documented.
• Design, implement and support complex applications and data integration solutions using advanced cloud‑based technologies.
• Mentor and develop engineers across the team, removing technical blockers and improving overall team velocity.
• Drive continuous improvement through process enhancements, tooling automation and adoption of modern engineering practices including AI developer tooling.

About You

You're an experienced engineer with deep AWS expertise, strong application development skills and a track record of technical leadership. You know how to set direction, bring others along with you and deliver in complex, fast‑moving environments.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in application architecture, implementation and support, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership capacity.
• Extensive hands‑on AWS experience — serverless (Lambda), infrastructure as code (Terraform, AWS CDK), application security and cloud‑native architecture.
• Proficiency in React/Redux with test‑driven development, and working knowledge of Python, Java or similar languages.
• Strong DevOps experience — Git, GitHub Enterprise, Jira and CI/CD pipeline delivery.
• Experience with AWS Bedrock or AI‑assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot), with the ability to guide teams on effective adoption.
• A business or IT degree and AWS certification.
