You will also partner closely with application and infrastructure teams to support production workloads, troubleshoot complex system issues, improve deployment processes, and ensure the Linux environment is secure, scalable, and supportable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise Linux environments, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux
  • Build and maintain scalable Linux platform standards across corporate and distribution center operations
  • Automate system administration tasks using scripting and configuration management tools
  • Support infrastructure automation, CI/CD enablement, deployment workflows, and DevOps best practices
  • Develop and maintain scripts, playbooks, templates, and runbooks to improve operational consistency
  • Manage Linux server builds, patching, upgrades, hardening, monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Partner with application, database, cloud, security, and network teams to support production systems
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point for Linux-related incidents and complex infrastructure issues
  • Improve observability, alerting, logging, backup, recovery, and resiliency across Linux platforms
  • Help drive modernization efforts across the Linux estate, including automation, cloud readiness, and infrastructure-as-code practices
  • Support change management, incident response, root cause analysis, and production reliability initiatives
  • Work with internal teams, managed service providers, and offshore engineering resources to ensure operational standards are met
  • Document technical designs, procedures, support processes, and environment standards

Required Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience administering Linux systems in an enterprise production environment
  • Experience with RHEL and/or SUSE Linux
  • Strong scripting experience using tools such as Bash, Python, Perl, or similar
  • Experience with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack, or similar
  • Understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD concepts, infrastructure automation, and repeatable deployment methods
  • Experience supporting production systems in high-availability or mission-critical environments
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across operating systems, storage, networking, authentication, permissions, performance, and application support
  • Familiarity with patch management, system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and security standards
  • Experience working with monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability tools
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with infrastructure, cloud, security, application, and operations teams
  • Strong documentation, communication, and ownership mindset

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
  • Experience with containers or orchestration platforms such as Docker or Kubernetes
  • Experience with Git-based workflows and CI/CD tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions
  • Experience supporting retail, distribution, warehouse, logistics, or 24x7 operational environments
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring tools, backup platforms, and disaster recovery processes
  • Exposure to VMware, storage platforms, identity management, and enterprise networking concepts

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a strong Linux engineer who can operate beyond traditional systems administration. This person enjoys automating manual work, improving reliability, partnering with multiple technical teams, and bringing DevOps-minded practices into a production infrastructure environment.

They should be comfortable owning technical projects, solving complex problems, documenting standards, and helping modernize Linux operations across a growing enterprise environment.
