We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Linguist III to join our growing AI and language research team. The ideal candidate will possess strong academic training in Linguistics and hands-on interest in multilingual language analysis, Responsible AI, and Natural Language Processing (NLP). This role involves performing linguistic analyses on large multilingual datasets, evaluating AI model outputs, conducting linguistic research, and collaborating closely with engineers, data scientists, and research teams to improve language technologies and AI systems. Candidates must demonstrate near-native proficiency in at least one language other than English, preferably Vietnamese, Dutch, Portuguese, or Thai.
Technical Skills Strong proficiency in Python programming (mandatory). Experience querying databases using SQL. Familiarity with NLP techniques and multilingual language technologies. Knowledge of data analysis tools/languages such as R is a plus. Understanding of international language-classification standards is preferred.
Linguistic Skills Near-native proficiency in a language other than English is mandatory. Preferred languages: Vietnamese, Dutch, Portuguese, Thai. Strong theoretical and practical understanding of Conversation dynamics, Turn-taking, Repairs and interruptions, Persuasion and argumentation, Pragmatics and discourse analysis. Working knowledge of additional or low-resource languages is highly valued.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong business and research communication abilities. Ability to independently handle complex tasks under pressure. Strong organizational, prioritization, and project tracking skills. Self-motivated and capable of working independently. Cross-functional collaboration skills.
Mandatory Graduate degree in Linguistics or a closely related field. Preferred PhD in Linguistics or related discipline. Specialization or background in Corpus Linguistics. Experience with linguistic fieldwork.
Important Notes A graduate degree in Literature or English is NOT an acceptable substitute. A Computer Science degree with NLP specialization is NOT an acceptable substitute.
0-3 years of relevant experience. Experience working cross-functionally with Machine Learning Engineers, NLP Researchers, Software Engineers, Data Scientists. Experience contributing to research papers is preferred. Experience applying basic NLP techniques is required.
Knowledge of Responsible AI concepts. Familiarity with machine translation, ASR, TTS, or LLM research environments. Exposure to multilingual AI systems and evaluation methodologies. Experience with low-resource languages is a plus.
