We're looking for an experienced Mainframe Developer with a strong insurance domain background to join a delivery team in Mississauga. The ideal candidate brings solid hands-on COBOL and JCL skills, familiarity with core insurance processes, and experience working within Agile Scrum teams.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, test, and maintain mainframe applications across batch and online systems in an Agile environment
- Work extensively with COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and CICS to support core insurance applications
- Analyze business requirements related to insurance processes including policy administration, claims, billing, and underwriting
- Deliver features within sprint cycles and participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives
- Perform code enhancements, bug fixes, and production support including ABEND and system failure troubleshooting
- Develop and maintain batch jobs using JCL and ensure application performance and reliability
- Collaborate with Scrum teams, product owners, QA, and business stakeholders
- Maintain technical documentation and adhere to established coding standards
What you bring
- 5+ years of mainframe development experience
- Strong hands-on expertise in COBOL, JCL, DB2/SQL, VSAM, and CICS
- Proven experience in the insurance domain across policy administration, claims, billing, or underwriting
- Experience working in Agile and Scrum delivery environments
- Solid debugging and problem-solving skills in a z/OS environment
- Experience with version control tools such as Endevor, Changeman, or Git
- Eligibility for a mandatory background check
Nice to have
- Experience supporting large-scale insurance platform migrations or upgrades
- Familiarity with mainframe performance tuning and optimization
- Prior experience mentoring junior mainframe developers
