Job Summary:

The NJAOC Developer - Mainframe is a senior hands-on developer responsible for maintaining, enhancing, and developing mainframe applications primarily using COBOL, CICS, DB2, and SQL. This role requires strong technical expertise in stored procedures and production support, along with effective communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders. The position involves working in a hybrid environment with both remote and onsite days.

Responsibilities:
  • Analyze, design, code, and test application programs owned by the Application Team.
  • Maintain and provide production support for existing mainframe applications.
  • Develop new or modify existing programs based on business and system requirements.
  • Perform unit testing and participate in system and usability testing with users.
  • Develop supportive technical documentation for programs.
  • Collaborate with IT and business units to develop technical solutions.
  • Work under the supervision of a Project Manager or designated IT representative.
  • Support database conversions and complex DB2 stored procedure coding.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • 8+ years hands-on experience coding, testing, and debugging COBOL, CICS, and DB2 programs.
  • Strong experience with IBM OS/JCL (MVS) and IBM/DB2.
  • Proficiency in SQL and complex DB2 stored procedures.
  • Experience with CICS and APPC/LU 2 or MQ programming in COBOL-CICS.
  • Experience in usability testing and collaborating with users during system testing.
  • Ability to extract business logic and document business rules from programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • 4-year college degree or equivalent technical education.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience with database conversions, specifically IDMS/DC to CICS and IDMS to DB2.
Special Considerations:
  • Hybrid work model: 3 days remote, 2 days onsite.
  • Must comply with absence approval policies and provide contact information during absences.
  • One-hour unpaid lunch break required.
  • Work under direct supervision of Project Manager or designated IT representative.
Scheduling:
  • Standard work schedule with hybrid remote and onsite days as specified (3 remote, 2 onsite).
  • Availability to participate in production support and maintenance activities as needed.
