Summary

The Management Trainee position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” Work directly with the Store Manager to develop sales, recruiting and leadership skills in order to become a Store Manager. The Management Trainee will also share responsibility for training and motivating teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay range: $20-$24/hr. The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications, and other job‑related reasons.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Sales Generation and Guest Service
  • Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and consistently provide legendary service.
  • Answer questions regarding store and merchandise.
  • Recommend, select, and help locate merchandise based on guests’ needs.
  • Anticipate and fulfill guest needs and create a wardrobe experience.
  • Demonstrate product using product knowledge and sales education, sharing it with teammates.
  • Maintain current sales and promotions, payment and exchange policies, and security practices.
  • Achieve personal sales‑per‑hour, average sales, and total net sales goals set by store management.
  • Fill out and use the Sales Presentation Guide daily to accomplish goals.
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty programs.
  • Build good guest relationships to develop a client‑based business.
  • Model, encourage, and demonstrate leadership in customer service and selling skills.
  • Perform leadership actions and maintain high standards, even when the manager is absent.

Teammate Recruiting, Training, and Development
  • Develop skills and assist in leading, directing, motivating, and educating new teammates.
  • Motivate teammates to complete daily tasks.
  • Coach and counsel teammates in accordance with Buckle policies.
  • Recruit for the store and participate in interviewing with the store manager.
  • Support the store manager by setting up all interviews.

Visual Merchandise Management
  • Educate teammates to implement, evaluate, and create visual displays according to Buckle guidelines.
  • Manage product categories such as denim, shoes, promotions, and supplies.
  • Maintain store standards of excellence at all times.
  • Ensure the sales floor is consistently sized and new freight is appropriately displayed.

Operations
  • Work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
  • Set goals and expectations to complete the extensive Management Trainee Program.
  • Review completed program assignments with district manager.
  • Establish communication with area, district, and corporate office to assist store operations.
  • Accurately complete store opening and closing procedures.
  • Implement Buckle developments and policies directed by the store manager.
  • Complete register balance and bank deposits accurately, daily and on time.
  • Adhere to loss prevention policies and store key controls at all times.
  • Handle returns, exchanges, and other operational duties in the manager’s absence.
  • Convey feedback to the manager regarding sales and teammate performance.
  • Monitor inventory of supplies and maintain a clean, organized store.
  • Communicate repair needs and emergency situations to the manager.
  • Apply Buckle’s code of ethics and policies.

Supervisory and Leadership
  • Plan and lead the team, review daily with teammates, and participate in meetings.
  • Ensure onboarding paperwork is completed promptly.
  • Supervise teammates as the manager in their absence.
  • Travel to cover other stores as needed.
  • Contribute to a positive team spirit and uphold mission statement.
  • Assist with special projects and assignments.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from a four‑year college or university in a relevant field preferred; or one to three months related retail experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands

Stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made.

Work Environment

Work in a retail store setting; normal noise level moderate.

Objective Qualifications
  • No visa sponsorship is available.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel, including overnight as required.
  • Relocation may be required.
