What is the opportunity?

The Manager of DevOps Developer Tools leads the operational excellence and technical enablement of RBC's Enterprise DevOps developer tooling ecosystem. This role is responsible for the day‑to‑day operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of a diverse portfolio of on‑premises and SaaS‑based developer tools and platforms that support RBC's software delivery lifecycle.

You will lead a team of DevOps Engineers and Developers responsible for ensuring these platforms remain highly available, performant, and aligned with developer experience, engineering standards, and compliance requirements. Your team owns the tooling that empowers RBC's engineering community, including Atlassian Suite and QEx tools. Additionally, you will serve as a key liaison between engineering teams, platform stakeholders, and technology leadership – driving the adoption of modern developer tooling, enabling smooth onboarding of new capabilities, and advocating for the developer experience across the enterprise.

What will you do?

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technology specialists responsible for operating and maintaining Atlassian, QEx, and other developer tooling platforms.
  • Oversee the troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimisation of on‑premises and cloud‑based developer tools and platforms.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, runbooks, and technical documentation that enable consistent, reliable service delivery across all systems.
  • Manage audit requests and compliance inquiries related to developer tooling infrastructure, working closely with audit and compliance teams.
  • Ensure operational systems meet regulatory and compliance requirements, maintaining appropriate control documentation and evidence.
  • Drive operational improvements and process optimisation across the developer tooling technology stack.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs) for developer tooling platforms.
  • Work with technology platform vendors to enhance, troubleshoot, and maintain SLAs under agreed contracts.
  • Support business units with tool onboarding, providing guidance on configuration, integration requirements, and compliance alignment.
  • Serve as the primary operational liaison between business units and the DevOps technology team, ensuring smooth communication and issue resolution.
  • Partner with platform architects, compliance, and IT leadership to align operational capabilities with organisational requirements.
  • Support incident response and escalation processes.
  • Recommend technology upgrades, vendor management, and infrastructure improvements based on operational experience.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have

  • Undergraduate degree coupled with change management experience in complex programmes with frequent requests and multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication, strong presentation skills, and the capacity to determine stakeholder information and communication needs.
  • Strong organisational, project management and time management capabilities.
  • A strong understanding of technology and/or the financial services industry.
  • Deadline‑driven and results‑oriented; capable of meeting consistently high quality standards while handling a variety of tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
