Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Manager – Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) for a Hydro Power Project. The candidate will be responsible for leading and managing all EHS functions associated with hydro power construction activities including tunnel works, dam construction, underground excavation, blasting operations, batching plants, crusher plants, river diversion works, and heavy construction equipment operations.
The role involves ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, client safety requirements, environmental standards, and company policies while promoting a strong safety culture across the project.
The candidate must possess strong leadership capability, technical expertise in construction safety management, environmental compliance knowledge, and experience in handling large infrastructure or hydro power projects.
Key Responsibilities Environment, Health & Safety Leadership
Lead and manage overall EHS operations for the Hydro Power Project.
Develop, implement, and monitor project-specific EHS plans, procedures, and policies.
Ensure compliance with all statutory safety and environmental regulations.
Establish a proactive safety culture throughout the project site.
Construction Safety Management
Monitor and control high-risk construction activities including:
Tunnel construction works
Underground excavation
Drill & blast operations
Working at height
Deep excavation works
Heavy lifting and crane operations
Electrical and mechanical works
Confined space entry
Ensure implementation of Permit to Work (PTW) systems for critical activities.
Conduct risk assessments, HIRA, JSA, and safety reviews for construction activities.
Review and approve Method Statements and Safety Procedures.
Environmental Management
Ensure implementation of environmental management plans and pollution control measures.
Monitor waste management, muck disposal, dust suppression, water management, noise control, and slope stabilization measures.
Ensure compliance with environmental clearance conditions and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate environmental monitoring activities and reporting.
Incident & Emergency Management
Lead investigation of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, and near misses.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Develop and manage emergency response plans and conduct mock drills.
Coordinate with local authorities during emergency situations if required.
Audit, Compliance & Documentation
Conduct internal safety audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
Ensure compliance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
Prepare and review EHS reports, dashboards, statistics, and presentations.
Interface with client representatives, consultants, statutory authorities, and third-party auditors.
Team Management & Training
Lead and mentor EHS engineers, safety officers, supervisors, and environmental staff.
Conduct EHS induction programs, safety training sessions, and awareness campaigns.
Monitor competency and safety performance of subcontractors and workmen.
Mandatory Skills & Competencies Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of EHS management systems in Hydro Power or large infrastructure projects.
Expertise in tunnel safety management and underground construction safety.
In-depth knowledge of blasting safety and explosives handling regulations.
Strong understanding of environmental management practices for hydro and mountainous projects.
Knowledge of statutory requirements related to:
Factory Act
Building & Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Act
Explosives Rules
Environmental Protection Rules
Pollution Control Board requirements
Expertise in:
HIRA (Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment)
JSA (Job Safety Analysis)
Root Cause Analysis
Incident Investigation
Emergency Response Planning
Strong knowledge of Permit to Work (PTW) systems.
Experience in implementing ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
Knowledge of firefighting systems and occupational health practices.
Managerial Skills
Strong leadership and team management capability.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.
Strong decision-making and problem-solving ability.

Mandatory Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Civil / Mechanical / Electrical / Environmental)
Full Time Degree / Diploma in Industrial Safety, Fire & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent from a recognized institute
Mandatory Experience
Minimum 12–18 years of experience in EHS management for large infrastructure projects
Minimum 5 years of managerial experience in Hydro Power / Tunnel / Dam / Underground construction projects
Proven experience in handling large workforce and multiple subcontractors at project sites
Preferred Certifications
NEBOSH International Diploma / IGC
IOSH Managing Safely
ISO 45001 Lead Auditor
