About the Company
Our client, a successful fintech company in North Toronto, is seeking to hire a Manager, Software Engineering (hybrid, 4 days/week).
About the Opportunity
- This position will lead a development team working on modernizing a commercial software product from legacy Java (v7-8) backend to API and microservice‑driven architecture on Java v21 and AWS/terraform.
- The person in this role is expected to be both technical and have strong team leadership experience.
- There is no coding expected in the role, outside of digging into code with developers for quality review or coaching purposes; however, this person is expected to come from heavy hands‑on Java roles.
- This position will lead architecture and evolution of the dev environment, dev processes and frameworks, app infrastructure, etc.
- The application will have React front end and will potentially use Claude AI for some assistance with coding/QA in the future.
- This software product has 10-50k messages flowing per day with 1000s of concurrent users.
About You
- History of progressive hands‑on software engineering and architecture positions
- Past/current coding/architecture experience with Java, Springboot, Linux
- Experience managing architecture, building and deployment of commercial software products and APIs/microservices on AWS
- Experience managing cloud‑first dev environments and dev/qa/devops/agile strategy
- Experience managing small Agile development scrum teams
- Very good communication and presentation skills
- Commute to Markham office 4 days/week

- Experience with refactoring/modernization of software code

- Experience with GitHub as code management environment
- Financial industry (or regulated like Soc2, PCI, etc.)

Salary Range
$150,000 - $160,000/year plus bonus
