Material Handler

The Material Handler plays a key role in supporting warehouse operations for a high-volume metals distribution facility serving aerospace, aviation, government, and industrial manufacturing customers. You will receive, store, move, process, and prepare metal products for customer orders while maintaining high standards of accuracy, quality, and safety. This position combines hands-on material handling, basic measuring and cutting, and order fulfillment in a dynamic warehouse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Pull and prepare customer orders accurately and efficiently according to specifications and delivery requirements.
  • Use measuring tapes and other measuring tools to verify product dimensions and clearly mark materials for processing.
  • Receive, load, unload, move, and store metal products throughout the warehouse in an organized and safe manner.
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to retrieve, transport, and stage materials.
  • Cut metal materials to customer specifications using equipment such as a miter saw and Sawzall after completing company-provided training.
  • Perform packaging, shipping, and order fulfillment duties to ensure orders are ready for on-time delivery.
  • Organize inventory and maintain accurate material locations to support efficient warehouse operations.
  • Support production schedules and respond to urgent customer delivery needs as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including regular housekeeping of work areas.
  • Follow all safety procedures, company policies, and quality standards during all warehouse and cutting operations.

Essential Skills

  • Basic math and arithmetic skills to calculate measurements and quantities accurately.
  • Ability to learn and accurately read a tape measure for verifying product dimensions.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn warehouse equipment and cutting operations.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to established safety procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate order pulling, measuring, and cutting.
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic to support consistent warehouse operations.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Comfort working with metal materials and related tools in a warehouse environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with forklifts and material handling equipment is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with saws such as miter saws and Sawzalls is an advantage.
  • Interest in metals, manufacturing, or distribution environments.
  • Willingness to participate in on-the-job training and ongoing skills development.

Work Environment

This role is based in an approximately 80,000-square-foot wholesale metal supply warehouse with a large, high-ceiling space stacked with raw metal materials. The facility is non-climate-controlled, so temperatures can vary with the seasons. You will work as part of a small on-site team of about four employees on the floor, fostering close collaboration and communication. Daily work involves operating forklifts and other material handling equipment, using measuring tools, and working with metal cutting equipment such as miter saws and Sawzalls after training. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and teamwork, with a focus on maintaining a clean and orderly warehouse.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
