What you will do-

Based at our Distribution Warehouse, near our East Providence plant, the Material Handler supports the shipping and receiving function at the distribution warehouse by staging finished goods and raw materials into designated areas for prompt identification and shipment of customer orders in a safe and orderly manner. Responsible for ensuring raw materials are received and shipped based on incoming delivery and production schedules.

How will you do it-

  • Assist in the unloading of finished goods being delivered from production plant
    • Receive material with mobile scanning device as it is offloaded from truck onto warehouse floor
    • Escalate any issues identified during material offload to supervisor
  • Review weekly shipment schedule to identify required placement of product in either inventory or staging locations
  • Verifying items, descriptions, and quantities noted on schedule are accurate compared to goods being staged for shipment.
    • Scan material into locations verifying transaction accuracy in real time
    • Perform inventory transactions (transfers, conversions) in Dynamics WMS
    • Building of crated orders by customer requests as noted on schedule
  • Finished goods material movement
    • Ensure materials are moved into designated storage areas as outlined on signage or maps throughout the warehouse
    • Routinely identify material staged in the wrong area, and move
    • Evaluate warehouse floor layout and make changes as required.
  • Loading of finished good shipments to customers
    • Communicate with supervisor to identify shipments based on final destination
    • Perform visual inspection of container/trailer prior to loading finished goods to ensure no visible product or safety issues exist
    • Sweep outbound trailer for dust and debris as well as run a magnetic trailer cleaning device over entire trailer/container floor
    • Adherence to maximum loading allowances of containers and trucks as directed by Logistics Coordinator
  • Storage and Housekeeping
    • Material to be stored in an organized manner for ease of access, identification, and inventory reconciliation.
    • Investigation and root cause of inventory discrepancies.
    • Perform routine cycle counts, as well as quarter-end and year-end financial physical inventory.
    • Clear identification and separation of finished and non-conforming (NCO) goods to ensure NCO is never shipped to a customer unless directed by management.
    • Routinely clean the warehouse space and ensure it free from clutter and debris.
    • Store crating and other raw materials in designated areas.
  • Other duties
    • Ensure good communication with relieving counterpart to communicate any issues experienced during shift rotation (Customer orders, inventory, safety/housekeeping, etc.)
    • Take directions from Distribution Coordinator and Logistics Coordinator daily.
    • Secure building (alarm, lighting, lock up) at end of shift.
    • Communicate with internal staff on visible issues, if any, of finished goods or other products received, reporting major issues to management as needed.

  • Willingness to escalate to Supervisor or Manager with any unknown processes.

Why you are right for the job-

High school diploma or equivalent required

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior experience as a material handler in a manufacturing environment required; preferably in a continuous manufacturing operation
  • Solid computer/data entry experience required
  • Dynamics WMS or equivalent system experience preferred
  • At least 3 years of forklift experience required
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English (verbal & written communications)
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. when required
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint skills required
