Material Handler

The Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of raw materials, finished goods, and production supplies throughout the facility. This role supports production by unloading incoming shipments, accurately storing inventory, delivering materials to production lines, maintaining inventory accuracy, and ensuring the facility remains clean and organized. Candidates must possess strong forklift operating skills and have experience operating overhead cranes in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely unload incoming trucks and verify received materials against packing slips and purchase orders.
  • Inspect incoming materials for visible damage and report discrepancies or quality concerns.
  • Transport and properly store raw materials, components, and finished goods in designated warehouse locations.
  • Deliver materials, glass, components, and production supplies to manufacturing lines in a timely manner to support uninterrupted production.
  • Operate forklifts to move materials throughout the facility while adhering to all safety requirements.
  • Operate overhead cranes to safely transport glass racks, bundles, and other materials as required.
  • Maintain accurate inventory transactions and documentation related to material movements.
  • Perform weekly and monthly cycle counts and physical inventory counts to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Investigate and communicate inventory discrepancies to supervision.
  • Remove scrap materials, recycling, and trash from production and warehouse areas on a routine basis.
  • Coordinate the disposal of facility waste in accordance with company procedures and environmental guidelines.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas following 5S and housekeeping standards.
  • Assist with shipping and receiving activities as needed.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to material flow, inventory control, and workplace organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support operational needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of forklift operating experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment preferred.
  • Previous overhead crane experience required, preferably within a glass manufacturing or heavy industrial setting.
  • Experience with inventory control, cycle counting, and material handling processes.
  • Ability to accurately complete paperwork and utilize inventory systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with production, shipping, receiving, and leadership teams.
  • Dependable attendance and a strong commitment to workplace safety.
