Position Summary

Load and unload chemical products and raw materials at rail car and truck loading/unloading areas and perform ancillary activities, including routine and non-routine equipment maintenance, in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. Package products into drums, totes, and pails, including appropriate labeling.

Key Activities & Responsibilities

Material Handling 70%

  • Perform regular safety inspections of tank farm equipment.
  • Monitor the temperature of acrylic acid in railcars.
  • Ensure quality of finished product by inspecting and washing railcars and tanker trucks per plant procedures.
  • Ship and receive finished products and raw materials.
  • Move and transfer chemicals and chemical products to and from railcars and tanker trucks at railcar and truck loading/unloading areas.
  • Unload and load packaged raw materials and finished products from box trucks.
  • Package products into drums, totes, and pails, including appropriate labeling.
  • Ship hazardous and non-hazardous waste per plant procedures.
  • Obtain quality control samples of raw materials and finished products for laboratory analysis.
  • Operate pallet jacks and forklift trucks.
  • Maintain basic knowledge of chemistry and chemical hazards and apply this knowledge in daily work activities.
  • Clearly communicate relevant information and/or instructions to production personnel.
  • Perform basic arithmetic operations.
  • Evaluate storm water before discharge, including measuring pH and clarity.
  • Discharge storm water according to plant procedures.

Data Entry 10 15%

  • Ensure shipping and receiving documentation complies with plant procedures.
  • Perform goods receipts using the SAP system.
  • Work with automated equipment, including computer-controlled systems.
  • Maintain accurate monitoring reports/logs, including daily wastewater flow and documentation of loading/unloading events.

Safety & Other Duties 10 15%

  • Understand hazards and risks associated with handling various chemicals and chemical products.
  • Effectively follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Make independent judgments concerning assigned tasks.
  • Recognize situations where supervisory/management input is advisable.
  • Safely wear and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow the direction of shift leaders/supervisors.
  • Understand and comply with plant Environmental Health & Safety (HES) regulations and applicable laws.
  • Perform housekeeping and other duties as assigned.

Context & Environment

  • Work 8-hour shifts, 5 days per week at the discretion of supervisory and management personnel.
  • Overtime may periodically be required to meet production schedules.
  • No travel is required.
  • Work is primarily performed outside during all seasons.
  • Must be able to lift 55 pounds regularly.
  • Requires frequent walking and climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Required PPE may include respirators, chemical-resistant clothing, hard hats, and safety eyewear.
  • Understand hazards and risks associated with maintenance and repair activities in a chemical manufacturing facility.
  • Apply knowledge of basic chemistry and chemical hazards in daily activities.
  • Make independent judgments concerning assigned tasks while considering safety and environmental concerns.
  • Safely wear and use required PPE.
  • Support site HES policies and comply with regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Participate in HES activities provided by site management, including Behavioral Base Safety and SafeStart.
  • Support and promote reporting of health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident, and injury incidents.

Required Education / Qualifications / Work Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 3 years of shipping and receiving experience in a chemical process operation required.
  • Basic computer literacy, including email and data entry, required.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Experience with automated processing systems preferred.
  • Forklift certification/ability to operate a forklift required.
  • Must maintain training required to ship hazardous and dangerous goods internationally and domestically.
